Earliest habs memory guys.....Lets hear em! heres mine

Nothing big, but i remember the first time i watched the habs play, i knew this was my team because red and blue were my favorite colours. Anyways, i was watching the game with my mom, trying to find out what the A stood for on the jerseys. We were able to figure out Captain...obviously but the A didnt make any sense to either of us. ( My mom isnt that big on hockey ) Damphouse scored a hat trick in that game...and i was also trying to figure what that was at the time too. Watching hockey had to be the most confusing thing i have ever done at first. Now ive mastered it, and eventually would like to make a living off analysing it. No sport better!

My brother and dad were watching the playoffs in 1971. I watched this guy Dryden stop everything thrown at him by the Bruinsat the garden.  As the series went on, I began to watch and was intrigued especially with games at the Forum. The national anthemI, Lemaire, Cournoyes, Lapointe, Savard ,Bouchard . I fell in love with the Habs  the french names and the red white and blue uniforms. Hooked ever since. Someone back about 30 years ago made ma a Habs afghan. Red white and blue with the large CH in the middle. I would love to post it. I will have to see if my son Nic can take a picture and get it on the site.

Hey Johab, cool story with your Mom and all.

I recall when I was very young, my grandmother use to come over saturday nights to watch the Habs play as well as play cards with me. Later in life I came to realize that my grandmother wasn't a habs fan at all, she did it to please me. I thought that was pretty cool of her.

I started watching the Habs some years ago, when the singer of the national anthem was a guy named Laurix Melchior.   When the Habs were losing late in a game, we'd have a routine where we took a rocking chair (a toy one that my little sister had), held it upside down and said "Laurix Melchior".

(Except we didn't know his exact name, and actually chanted "Lawrence Meltiore").

I just had another memory.

We kids would be watching the game on Saturday nights and my parents would be sitting on the couch doing the crossword puzzle from the day's newspaper.  The Habs would score and we'd all cheer.  Then they'd show the replay (this was before slo-mo) and my mother would say "My, they're scoring again already!".

My earliest memory is at about 5, I was in a Macdonalds in Vancouver, opening up my pack of hockey cards. I was so excited to get the Habs team card, I whipped it over to show my big brother across the table and knocked my chocolate milkshake flying over everyone present. I don't remember being too popular that night, but hey....

I think I also had a Dunc Wilson card I used to scrape the choco-goo off my dad's glasses...
