Has anyone else noticed Ribs has been playing ALOT better ( Physically, mentally ) hockey? The guy IS hitting, hes getting infront of the net, sharing the puck, taking short shifts, and not taking stupid penalties. The guy was definately one of the better players out there tonight and has been slowly regaining my confidence in him ...and probably in himself. I've liked ribiero ( i even wear his number but not because of him...its just a good number haha ) I hope the guy can continue to improve along with the rest so they can all get better as a team and bring us to the playoffs.

True enough. I think the team's size increase helps, even if Ivanans wasn't around this last game. Ribeiro is getting his confidence back and maybe it's because he's not as afraid of getting pasted.
Honestly, earlier in the season I could differentiate between Saks and Ribs! Now I have to wait to see the jersey number! Ribs brought his play up and Saks hasn't played like Saks! They look comparible on the ice! Also the numbers are close..11 and 71.
Still, I think Ribs has alot of room to improve! Gainey should continue to make him earn his ice!
I totally agree AB. He would be hitting everything that moved, carrying the puck in without losing it etc... and all the while I would think it's someone else. I wanted him out as much as the next guy, but I must admit he's grown on me again and hopefully for good.
i think the key factor with the improvment in ribiero's play is that he has been put into a lesser role. there isn's as much expectations on him on the 4th line so he's getting back to the basics of just playing hockey. i know he hasn's been tearing up the scoring sheets but on the 4th line he doesn't need too. we need hime be somewhat a threat and just hustle out there and that is exactly what he has been doing so good for him! more games like this and you will see his confidence grow and eventually he will start finding the net. i like the way he is still used on the pp because he can still be an offensive threat.
I have to disagree with the lot of you. While I think he has picked it up a bit, he's still below average for my liking. I don't think he's been that great actually and I think saying that you can't differentiate between him and Saku is a slap in Koivs' face. He looked ok on the PP, but so what, anyone can make a pass when the other team is a man down. I think we're so used to him doing absolutely nothing that when he has a decent night, it's like he just scored 5 goals in a game.

I agree, Thompstar. Ribeiro is not in Saku's league. He has, what, one goal in his last 30 games or so? Hardly stuff to write the Hall of Fame about!

I just checked his stats. Zero goals and 2 assists, +/- of minus 5 in his past ten games. If that's an improvement, then so be it, but I don't see it................
He has 3 goals since November 26th (2 1/2 months). That's our #2 centre????

I just don't see him doing too much out there either. He has the odd slick pass or dangles someone, but until he learns to pull the trigger, his use is marginal. 3 goals on 5 shots, probably. If we COULD move Ribs, I'm pretty sure everyone would be on that boat including his teammates.

I think Ribs has looked a lot better in the past three-four games. It hasn't generated stats, but it's been a better effort and makes me hopeful. In no way do I think he compares to Koivu, who's an all-around player AND a consistent point producer. And, whatever the bashers may say, a veteran leader who commands respect and brings it on a regular basis.
Guys, just realize that the better he looks, the more chance Gainey has on moving him! So if he only has a few goals since Nov..who cares, that's why he needs to be traded! The important thing is he at least looks better now and will improve enough to trade!
Then Gainey has to get Theo going to trade him also! Which is harder to do because Theo=losses!
Ribs may have improved his work on the ice somewhat over the past couple games, but I'm still yearning to see the "Old" Ribeiro. He wasn't our leading scorer last time around by accident. The kid hustled, he hit, he worked to create scoring chances, and when he got an oppoirtunity to shoot he took it -- and plenty of those shots went in.
This season he's been like a different player, dishing the puck off rather than skating with it. Looking to pass as soon as the puck's on his stick. Back-checking only when he feels like it. I don't know where his killer instinct went, but I hope he gets it back. The kid has some good skills, I think, they've just been dormant. He should be getting 40-50 points a year. Until he's back on that pace, he's just a shadow of his former self in my opinion.
