I heard that only about 300 females play hockey in Italy - If not for being host country I doubt if they would have put in a women's hockey team (I am not aware if they compete in World Championships) - It will be interesting to see if Italy will send a team in 2010 to Vancouver possibly the last time they will have Womens' Hockey at The Olympics if at that time there are still only two competive teams(Canada/USA) and other countries have not caught up to them by winning at least a few games against the top two teams in the next 4 - 5 years - making The Olympic Women Hockey a bit more of a competive hockey tournament which it should be........
