17.3Heres koivu's stats the mans a plus 3 give him a break he is almost a point a game player does anyone actually follow any of the players stats or just rip a guy for a bad play now and then. You must all remember hes trying to lead this team but yet he gets no respect from management no new contract no nagotiantions, but yet they will sign a player like kovalev and that guy floats almost every game .Gainey has to get his act together when it comes to Koivu and sign him so he can truly lead this team.I guess you can all tell im a Koivu fan. GO HABS GO.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe KOIVU is the one holding up negotiations? He has gone on record that he has gone on record as saying that "Maybe it would be nice to explore free agency as I have never done that before". It is looking quite likely that it is SAKS who wanted a one year deal last year and not Gainey. Geesh some people paint him as a Saint or something. He has an agent just like every other player and wants the best deal that he can get, This is a business. Yes he has given alot to the Habs. But I do not expect Gainey to offer him a long term deal worth over 5 million a year because of that (but another team will).

Actually Barry he is not the one holding out. According to RDS and other news sources, his agent has already contacted Bob to see where the Habs want to go from here. Also you need to remember that Saku has never held out on the team. After he played a full season scoring a point per game a couple of years back, he could of held out but agreed to managements idea of a one year deal. Then again last year the same thing. Alot of players, Theo, Ryder, etc... have held out, Saku hasn't been one of them. That's a big reason why he gets my respect.

And-o just wants Bob to get on with it!

Either sign him...or move him!

Teflon Bob will get slaughtered though if he lets the Captain go for free!

...imagine how Panther fans feel about potentially losing Jokinen for nothing!!!?

"Teflon" Bob might lose immunity soon if this team doesn't pick it up.

Bad deal - Bonk, Huet for Garon

Bad waiver loss - Hainsey

Bad giveaways - Ward, Hossa

Bad signings - Kovy, Theo, Dandy

Bad non-signings - Koivu

Bad drafting - Kostitsyn, Price

Good trades - none

Good waiver moves - Begin

Good signings - none

Note: The above are in retrospect views

Koivu wants what's best for Koivu. just like the rest of us would. I think Koivu wants out of Montreal. Having Ribby as a back-up and varius other dumbass moves has given him thoughts of getting out.

Look for him to sign with an up and coming team or a present contender. Bob Gainey would have to sign him to 4 years / 20 mil just to keep his interest. Even if Bob matched all offers, I think Koivu would get the heck out. Gainey would have to "BEAT" all offers.

I would not blame him if he goes.

It sounds like many here, are reallizing that Gainey has made many errors!

 What took you so long?

Actually think if Gainey keeps making these sub-par decisions that no quality player will want to come here or stay here! So, I guess I agree with you Muller. Saks won't want to stay and play with Theo, Kovy, Bonk, Zed etc. Yes despite his suspect season, Saks is a quality player in comparison to the players Gainey has had his mark on!

Normally I would be all over bashing Koviu, but the more I have thought about it, the more I am thinking it might be Gaineys sytem that is hurting him and Kovalev. Koviu doesn't have a history of being a player who shows up only half the time. Does anyone else think that Gaineys defensive style is slowing down our offensively skilled players? AK said it about Juliens system, which by reading Barry33's post looks as if it is Gaineys system. Just a thought.
