While on the topic of Koivu and Kovalev..............
Permalink Closed

................. I just did a bit of ciphering, and here are their lifetime points-per-game stats (right up to Saturday's game):

Koivu .813

Kovalev .806

Given their relative size and skill level (not to mention that Kovalev played a few years with a decent player named Mario Lemieux!), wouldn't you have expected Kovalev to be way ahead???????  Rather than behind???????

I think the difference is consistency and heart.

I rest my case, and will say no more on the subject.

You forgot to mention 2 years on the terrible New York Rangers.  A team that collectivelly did not score a point a game.

Really, I don't want to gang up on Kovalev, but the same could be said of Koivu. He's played on many Montreal teams where he was the only guy getting a point per game, or even close.

Excellent home work Nil d. You should be a lawyer. And-o and AB would end up in prison for three life terms with that arguement.

I wonder how And-o's big stud BONK adds up?

Very good point NIL.  I have said in my posts before that I will defend Kovalev till he is gone, and I will continue to do so.  The excitement he brings to the ice intrugues me.

Let's break it down further. Kovy has 149 goals over 345 games with Pens playing with Mario very seldom (Mario's second stent with many injuries and only 134 games played in three seasons)! As a Hab, Kovy has 12 goals in 48 games playing mostly with Saks! A much higher ratio playing on the basement dwelling Pens team!

Nil, are you blaming Gainey for signing Kovy as he hasn't fit in well playing with Habs?

For the money/security Kovalev is getting - He should be putting out more effort to "Fit In Well" playing with the Habs - he now has an "A" so that might help as well as hitting the net more often with his shot - there were at least three times against The Leafs that Kovalev had a scoring oppurtuntity but missed the net - if he hits the net it could be a goal or at the very least a rebound......One problem is both Kovalev & Koivu like to handle the puck alot also it could be worth a shot to try Kovalev back on the point during the PP which I think he did when he first joined the Habs in the last season.........

Not at all.  I just wish that Kovalev would bring his "A" game with his every night rather than every three nights or less.  For a man of his talent to have a .81 PPG average is downright atrocious!
