Theo to Edmonton

I have a source (not Barry33) who tells me that a deal with Edm is close.
apparently, it would include Theo + Komi for R.Smyth + M.A.Bergeron + one of their junk goalies.
The hangup is that they were hesistant on giving up Bergeron. With Tarnstrom in place, this deal now
makes sense.

interesting, I heard nothing of this, but looking at the salaries it is possible.

I did mention a few days ago that theo's brother was in the shop saying he was suppose to be traded 3 days ago however

Go for it. We've pretty near rock bottom anyway. I'd do it Smyth for Theo at this point. Komisarek, well, I don't have much of an opinion n him but this board seems to think him as lost a cause as Hainsey. And Edmontons junk goalies are playing better than Theo, n'ect-ce-pas? Might make Montreal fun again

And to make the rumors even more "probable," if you can say that, is that Gainey has yet to commit to a goalie for Saturday. Sounds like he might be working on something. Persoanlly, I belive in sunk cost. As in Theo is already paid for so I'd rather have a chance to win with him on the bench than to give him more chances to "earn" his money. The money is guaranteed to him and nothing we can do about it. So let Huet play until he blows it. The only exception would be if the team revolts and says they'll only play if Theo is in. Think that'll happen? Nope.

Man, Theo was supposed to be the centrepiece of this rebuilding thing...easily his worst season ever.

I really don't like the idea of giving up on Komo... it is too early.  Plus, they already have 8 d-men, why would they trade  a top winger and not replace him, but instead replace their 8th defenceman?  It would make more sense to send Zednik along for the ride...

I'd take that deal too.  Smyth would be a great addition and M.A.B. is a good defenseman with size and an upside.

M.A.B. is also a French Canadian whcih would be retain the status quo of losing Theo...

Great points, rings. But I'd try to keep Komisarek. Think it is just not his year. He's got the tools. Edmonton would have to give up some salary (I think they have their own internal cap) so that is why Smyth would come over. Damn, the more I think about it, the more I hope it comes along.

I don't like giving up Komo either, you know he's gonna be hot when he matures. Edmonton is probably asking this, I'd rather give them a future draft pick and send off Ribs

Agreed, It would be a little premature for Komi, but I think MAB is much better now and will be better in the future.  But there is no denying that Ryan Smith is a hockey player's player...he's the complete package.  And he always shows up...

Someone asked who would be Captain if Koiviu left..your answer is right there.

This won't happen now! Too late for this trade. Gainey missed the boat!

As for Komi, I can see him turning into a Rivet type player! Rivet has been a late bloomer also! Is now playing his best hockey! Remember him even last season. He couldn't skate or pass!

Barry, good point. Smyth could be a co captain even with Koivu (who I want to stay). A for Smyth and Rivet. C for Koivu unless he wants to share. My brother's b-day is this weekend and he's an Oilers fan (canadian teams in general but Oilers first). So, make him a good gift, Bob. Time for a little prayer.

They do seem to like Theo - someone called him a horse...more like an ass lately. But they seem to offer pooh in return...where's the Smyth?

So everyone is talking about trades, but does everyone agree that it is time to make a trade?

I think it's time. My prediction of Theo staying a Habs til the last half of his 3rd year might haunt me...

The time for a trade was a month ago actually . We keep saying "Ok, we have now hit rock bottom". Then a week later we hit a new low. New Coach, same attitude. Next step. New players, new attitude.

I totally agree.  I don't know what Gainey keeps waiting for?  The rumour have been swirling, so obviously there has been some discussion and offers out there. He is known as an extremely patient guy, but he must have ice in his veins cause it hasn't been pretty lately...

Don't get your hopes up that we'd wind up with an Olympic calibre forward (Canadian, that is). The Oilers just traded for a couple of d-men, so, why Komi?

I'm in Edmonton and I have the same accountant as Ryan Smyth (sp? - oh well, who cares...it's not as though he's a Hab). Grant Fuhr is also a client of his and my guy is a big hockey fan and he's given me a number of hockey prizes for the Guy Lafleur Fall Classic (this year will be the 19th, BTW -- the Robinson Year). We're having lunch the week after next, which could make for some interesting conversation.

I would not want to be sitting across the poker table from gainey

One of the most frustrating things about the New NHL is that there are tons of rumours and tons of needs, but no action... sounds like a troubled couple in a small town.

I'd take just about anything at this point to turn things around... The guys need to change their attitudes for any kind of win to happen.
