Doug Weight possibly to Montreal?
Permalink Closed

A couple different sites have been saying Philly, Calgary, Montreal and Ottawa are likely destinations for Doug Weight. He's said that he wants to play for a cup contender (so, maybe Montreal is a long shot). 2 questions:

Would you take him?
What would you give for him?

For me, if the price is right, it might be worth a shot. He's almost 1 PPG, pretty consistant with scoring over that past few years and fits what some here seem to think were're missing (except he's 35 so only 3-4 yrs left). So what price? What does St Louis need? Everything? I'm not good at these offers, but what about Ribs, mid draft choice and we take his salary.

I don't know. He's old, soft and makes mucho $$$.  On the other hand, he would probably be good in the dressing room and he has brilliant hands, but I don't think he is what the Habs need right now.

As noted, Weight wants to play for a contender and has veto powers . . . there's no way he'd be willing to come to Mtl.

Not interested. He's a sellout. When the Oiler wanted to keep him, he opted out cause the $ was in St.Louis. He's done nothing to impress me.

I don't know what Weight's salary is, but it would be worth looking at I think. He's got a lot of talent and is an honest to goodness goal scorer. Of course, he wouldn't be around long -- he's got maybe three years left in the league max, which is why he wants to go play for a contender. So he probably wouldn't want to come to Montreal. But would I trade Ribs and a second-round pick for him, assuming that Gillette can handle the $$? Yeah, I would. An additonal offensive threat could work wonders for this team -- and it might help gt Kovy moving on the ice, too.

5.7 million dollars

He's got a lot of talent and is an honest to goodness goal scorer.

In 46 games he has 42 pts - 10 goals, 32 assists.  Minus 11

If he's a goal scorer, than so are Koivu, Plekanec, Ribeiro, Bonk.... Weight is, in reality, a playmaking centre. Like so many others.

5.7 is out of the question. Half of that would be too much. It would be nice to have somebody who could contribute a point a game, though. Ten goals doesn't seem like much, but ten goals at the right times can turn into ten wins. The minus-11 doesn't mean much playing for a team like the Blues. I'm surprised it isn't higher...

I agree we need a first line center but is this just adding another washed up fancy smurf?

Yeah, we already have a small point-a-game guy, right? This is the problem. We need a big centre to complement Koivu. Not that Weight is that small, but he plays small...

I honestly think that we should look into getting Olli Jokinen.  There were rumors that he was up for grabs and Calgary were looking at him...but i say we make a deal for him, he's a number 1 center, he's big and can put the puck in the net....just what we need and are looking for.

I think Weight is one of the best play makers left in the game he reminds me of Adam Oates in the assist department MTL does need a playmaker, but not that payroll...GURU said he sold out so we dont need that right now we do need goals.

You had me there, until you threw Bonk in that lineup!

According to TSN (Bob Mackenzie) the only two Canadian teams that Weight is interested in are Ottawa & Calgary who in Weight's opinion are Stanley Cup contenders but news to those teams that Weight wants to join them........

Weight would probably help either team, especially Calgary, who are a bit weak down the middle when it comes to playmakers.
