............................and then plays him against the Leafs ....his confidence is shaken and I don't think the Habs can realistically be expected to beat Philly and Ottawa ...we need at least solid efforts against Philly and Ottawa ....if we get blow out games against those teams and then lose to Toronto ..well the team insecurity will just intensify ...
as crazy as it sounds , I would even rest a couple of the vets , especially against Philly , call it upper body injuries or whatever ....play the youngsters a lot for the next two games ....
I was looking at the Febuary schedule ..it's a bit easier and we do have games in hand ....so ........maybe we have a shot ..at grabbing a spot
You can sit Theo all you want but we can't keep the vets off the ice, really. I agree that we need to develop the rookies more, but in the context of a team with vets will help them alot more. That is if there are a few vets that want to lead this team.

That is the problem. I have not seen any vets who want to take control of this team and lead it.

This is sad though, I went to Quebec this weekend for my first time ever and I was estatic just because I saw some luggage that had a Canadiens tag on it, assuming someone who worked with the team was staying there. Just the thought of being that close to Montreal gave me chills. But these guys are PLAYING FOR THE TEAM, and they coast around like it's just another pay check.

Unfortunately, my young friend, the CH doesn't mean much to today's hghly-paid spoiled brats. Guys like me who revered these guys growing up would have paid in blood for a chance to play for the storied Habs. Those days are gone....................

You nailed in Nilsey. These guys could care less (and by that I mean all of them). It is like "hey trade me, I don't care I will get paid to do nothing elsewhere. Pffut

They had a lot of chances last night to bury the puck, but the 'Canes tender (isn't Ward a rookie too?) did what a goalie is supposed to do - keep the puck out of the net!!!
What the hell was Theo doing on Williams' goal? Searching for his contact lense?
There is NO WAY in hell you start Theo against Philly and Ottawa. His trade value has already plumeted to the bottom of the ocean, so what does it matter now?

I agree that his confidence is shaken... to the point where he has become a head case. Being left in to surrender as many goals as he has given up would have anyone talking to himself. Once one gets by him he's gotta be thinking "Oh no, it's happening again."
Bear in mind I'm not defending (or attacking) him... I just don't see him coming back for this team, ever.

"Sanford, who has four shutouts in 28 career starts, was at his best in the third period when the Canucks had a 21-5 shots advantage. Vancouver, beginning a seven-game trip, was blanked on four power plays in the final period."- TSN
The Sanford referred to is the Goalie for St. Louis who blanked the Canucks 4-0 last night. Yes the same vancouver that beat the habs so badly Saturday night. And St. Louis has a worse team than Montreal (if you can believe THAT). Goes to show what goaltending does for a team?

Please bear with me while I repeat a post from last night that no one replied to. (I posted late and west coast time, thanks to the wonders of TIVO.)
So here's what I saw when Carolina goal #5 Went in:
Bonk, Souray, and Ryder, each with a foot in the paint or close to it, industriously wacking away at the puck with their heads down.
What in the name of John Ferguson happened to that old Howie Meeker axiom, "Play the man and not the puck?"
I saw similar play in the third... Habs all over the crease, clearly convinced that Theo couldn't handle the puck. At the same time they are interferring with their own goalie. If a dumb trapper can see that I sure as heck the coaching staff can!
I wonder if it would be better to give Theo a leave of absence for a couple of weeks and have him and Melanson move into a hotel in the middle of nowhere and work on his game and brain. I think more than anything, this guy needs to just get away and get his head straight. Then hopefully he can come back re-focused enough to play a couple of good games so we can trade him and move on. I know it would be an odd move and I am half joking, but I can't think of what else might work right now...

I agree %100. Perhaps an "injury" would settle him in time for the playoffs, and remove a negative from the dressing room. Theo's still got the goods, he just needs to unblock them. As much as I've needled the guy recently, I still think he's our #1, and should at least be given till the end of the season to straighten up, even if he doesn't start another game... The rewards of a healed Theo far outweigh the benefits of dumping him...

Hey at this stage I am willing to send him to the Hymalayas to see the Dali Lama if it works.

The Dalai Lama lives in the US these days, doesn't he? It would be a short trip.

If Theo plays, I am sorry to say I will be retreing form the board for a while so I can rest. If BG is that stupid, we deserve what we get. How about last night the Carolina announcers said "every team wants to play Montreal these days" Its a wonder

Even if he rests, there's no guarantee that the Habs are gonna make the playoffs. Their schedule down the stretch is nuts.
I think that the Olympic trade freeze in on from Feb 7 until the end (or near end) of February. Then there's the trading deadline in March.

he stays on my couch when he's tired of his palace in India!... Says it brings him closer to the earth. I've tried to explain it's dust, but he's so happy, and I wouldn't want to spoil it for him..,

I don't think he can keep playing Theo...the guy has let in 10 goals in the last 2 games on about 25 shots. If he starts again, they might as well not show up for the rest of the games on this road trip. He hasn't been bad, he's been awful.
Intersting to see what Ottawa does to them if they come out the way they have the past 3 games...
