good now that habs have another player to send to hamilton

i really hope thats not what hes doing if hes gonna pick someone up he should get someone he can used right away and not just someone for the bulldogs

Downey will be in the lineup Wed in Philly. Garth Murray has a seperated shoulder.

FANTASTIC signing for the softest team in the NHL. I had the pleasure of watching Aaron play in Chicago while He was there. Met him a bunch as well. PHENOMENAL team guy...will do whatever it takes. great in the room, and always sticks up for his mates. it's as good a move as the Pens signing Cairns. He isn't the toughest guy in the league, but can hang with anyone.

He is a quality indivudual.

The guy has fought Peter Worrell of Florida 5 times. That tells me he is either a good fighter or a candidate for the boys with the butterfly nets and a rubber room.

I was glad to hear this signing when I got home, need some toughness and Aaron is just that. He is a tough bugger. Did anyone see the workout routine he does in the summer. They showed it on TSN, along with Roberts and Lindros I believe working out in their own way. It showed how he trained to fight guys and the different techniques he uses. A farm boy who is very strong but lot large.

Secondly hes a friend of my brother, who I have had the chance of meeting several times. Maybe he can hook me up for tickets whenever I'm in Montreal. His family will love that they play the Leafs this Saturday with his hometown of Shelburne only half hour drive!

Now I have to ask, Why BG signed that Vandermeer guy and not give him a chance to show what he can do in the big league.

Because these guys are same type off players(although I have never seen Vandermeer in action), but now Vandermeer is just waste off jersey and money in Hamilton.

I'm all for toughening up the line-up because they are one of the weakest and undersized teams. However, despite him being a great guy and he may help in the dressing room, BUT I don't think he is helping put the puck in the net and he isn't strengthening the blue-line. Maybe it's part of BG's masterplan to fill the holes??

Sorry 24, I disagree, well-timed fists in the opposing yapper do put pucks in the net. It's an "assister to the kisser".

Don't think it is a bad move, but I don't think it is going to change anything. A goon never does. He's a limited minutes guy, who is going to yo-yo in and out of the minors. They need scoring and blueline help ASAP.

It is only a piece of the puzzle, I agree. We still have huge needs that need filled. I am hoping that Downey will do 2 things:

1) Shake things up a bit in the dressingroom by bringing in someone new to break up the "boys club"

and

2) provide a bit more space for guys like Koivu and Kovalev. Now guys like Souray and Rivet can stay on the ice where they are needed.

In my books, 450,000 well spent.

The thing is, don't we already have Ivanis and Vandemeer in our system?

We have bigger concerns but I do reallize a fighter can help team morale! Why not use what's in the system? Don't they deserve more of a look?

Gainey needs to make a core move already for an impact centermen, goalie or d-man!

I agree with you, like I earlier posted. Where`s the sense of this waiver pick

? Ok, Ivanans was promoted once, had a fight, lost and got injured. Vandermeer has never been in the big league, so I think he would be more than anxious to give everything for the team.

Power, my finnish friend, you are right. For an expereinced GM Gainey does some things that baffle me. He goes out last year and gets Ivannis and Vandermeer. Signs Vandermeer to a a one way contract and sends him to Hamilton. Gives Ivannis 2 games and he gets hurt by a cheap shot by Chara and will never see a Habs uniform again....now goes and spends money on Downey *shaking head*

Most teams should have at least two so-called tough guys (it would help if they could score like Sen's Neil - 13 goals ?) it creates competition from within, no presence/being physical etc no icetime. Ottawa has Neil/McGratton-Calgary Simon/McCarthy - Toronto Domi/Belak/Perrot before he went to Dallas. Interesting Cherry last Saturday Night says Domi can't fight due to injury - I guess he's a quick healer as he went with Neil last night although he made sure he nothing to do with McGratton LOL....

Muscle is always a good thing to have on a team. You build a reputation with fights, like the Flyers had in the early years, and intimidation becomes a factor in the game. Players think twice before going into corners, players won't take a run a certain guys.

It doesn't matter that one or 2 guys won't put the puck in the net, not everyone on a team is brought in for that. But having a few tough players is a great thing to have, and something Montreal has not had in awhile.

I'm happy with the signing and I think the only place we can go now is up.
