Ryder is second leading scorer and his +/- has become alot more acceptable (-2) since he's been playing on Saks line. Maybe we should put Ribs with Sak on the #1 line along with Ryder to get his +/- up.
How bout we get some of the other lines going... Bonk care to score another this season or are you done?

I feel sorry for Ryder! The guy knows how to score but no one to feed him! Could you imagine if we had a bonified first line centermen! He could have 35 goals already!
I do agree though that he plays his best with Saks! Ribs and Ryder had no chemistry for whatever reason! Never the less on a better team Ryder would be dangerous every shift!

personally I put very little weight on plus/minus figures, especially on a team that is as poor defensively as Montreal is as a team. With the amount of goals we give up, you are going to be on the ice for your share of goals. Plus/minus can be very deceiving. For instance, if you play on the Power Play alot, your chances of improving your plus minus stats are significantly better than a guy who spends half the game trying to kill penalties. Having said that, it is nteresting that Saks has such a good plus/minus stat as he spends alot of time checking the other teams top line.

Actually Barry, when you play the PP you don't get a + when a goal is scored for your team when you are on the ice. You get a - if a shorthanded goal is scored against you. Same as the PP if you are on the PK and a goal is scored, you don't get a -. If you score a shorthanded goal, you get a +.
I look at the +/- alot, especially on this team since they are so poor defensively. You can really tell who's playing well and who's not.

Ya, really, he could be leading the league in goal scoring??? Wow, let's trade for that centerman now. I didn't know Ryder was as good as KOVALCHUK.
I guess if Mario or Wayne came back and they went back in time to their glory days and Ryder were on their lines then maybe he could be leading the league in goals.

Thanks John I had forgotten that. In Minor hockey (Bantam AAA) that I coach we count all goals on your plus minus. Thanks for pointing that out. It can be an interesting stat at times. The only stat I am concerened about right no wthough are wins and losses.

I'm talking goals John! Ryder has a great shot but not a complete player like Kovalchuk who can also fly! But since you brought it up, I do think Ryder would have 35 goals playing on a line with Savard! Savard is a good playmaker! Ryder just wouldn't have the 32 assists that Kovalchuk has! Ryder can shoot the puck as well as anyone in the league! I stand by that!
I had no Idea about that +/- rule on the PP. I often wondered why (especially this season) in a game where a team wins by 5 goals yet their highest scoring players +/- is like +2. Thanks for clearing that up.
And as for Ryder potentially having 35 goals by this point if he had a "bonified" centerman... well I guess there is no way to say it is IMpossible. But honestly man how can you deny that a guy like Savard and his current point output has more to do with his LINEMATES talent than that of his talent.
Put Savard on a line with Ryder and I bet it would make NO impact either way on his ability to score goals.
But I do like the idea of somehow getting Mario or Wayne to hop in a time machine in 1985 and ending up in the Canadiens line-up. Enough talk let's get working on that.

Is this post a joke?
Ryder is no Kovalchuk, as a goal-scorer, or in any other capacity...!
Anyway, Savard is a very similar player to Koivu. He's playing in a totally offensive system (with a guy who buries everything on his line).
He's injured just as often as Koivu, by the way. (56, 67 and 45 GP in the last three seasons, 135 points) - If you don't count the cancer season, Koivu's last three seasons were 54, 82, 68 GP, and 164 points.
