Bonk and Saks
Permalink Closed

I note that Gainey is using Bonk more than Saks! Not much more but alot more than CJ used Bonk! Does this mean Gainey has more confidence in Bonk? Maybe likes his size better like on the PP or he notes that Saks is tired and trying to revive him?

Maybe I'm reading too much into this and Gainey is show casing Bonk for a trade!

It means he traded for the bafoon so he's trying to give him a chance to get out of his never ending funk. CBC was blasting him last night for being a lazy player. BG doesn't like being shown up so he will see if Bonk can fix things on his own or if he'll be gone in the offseason.

He's a bum in my opinion. Ottawa knew what they were getting rid of. Too bad we don't have the same kinda scouts.

I agree John. Bonk has done nothing to remotely impress me. If anything, Saks may be tired (he has looked a step slower lately) and Bonk is all we have to spell Koivu a bit, which speaks volumes about our "depth" at center. And yes, Gainey, like all GM's, is well schooled in butt covering. That was why, the day he canned Jules, he made a point of putting Theo back in. So much for THAT experiment.

Barry. And there you have it. If you were a mechanic trying to isolate the main problem why an engine is not running smooth, you just located it.

This ain't Koivu's fault. If anything, as real fans, we should be supporting our only guy at center. But NOOOOO, we can't do that.

It's like this...Imagine your heart,,,now imagine you spend all day around people who smoke in your face( I mean blowing it in your face all day). Now you have a heart attack. And everyone blames it on your heart saying how weak it must have been to let you die so young...

That may be the worst analogy in history but you get my point

John, I know you and I are Koivu fans so we're biased about this, but how he gets bashed non-stop by everybody here, while Bonk - who has one goal (that went in off his a$$) while playing lousy defensive hockey i.e. completely useless - gets praised, or made excuses and allowances for all over the place, is completely beyond me!

Koivu is the most consistent Hab this year, shows up every night, leads the team in scoring, leads the team in plus/minus, gets a point a game - and yet about three of us on this board like him.  I simply can't get over it!  What has he done to deserve this treatment?

Yes it was and yes I do.

And Nil d if we are picking sides here count me as a Koivu fan. No one and I mean NO ONE creates more chances than that guy on a consistent basis. Its too short-sighted to put the blame mostly on him. You have to go way out of your way to pick his game apart. But somehow its one of the most common complaints on this board

I have to agree with you! Gainey is playing him not because he prefers him but because he traded for him! That does show some arrogance on Gainey's part unless as I stated, he is show casing him!

Ottawa has the best scouts and Savard had a big hand in many of the players they use today! Since Gainey arrived, the picks have been questionable by many including sports media! I think Savard was on a roll here also with Komo, Higgins, Plecs etc! I think ultimately now Gainey has been the one deciding since he's been here! I wonder how much say Savard has?

And another thing - a knock against Koivu is he's injured a lot.  Bonk has missed eight more games than Koivu this year!  I still shake my head at the whole thing.................i just don't get it.
