Well, like sitting in your girlfriend's living room after she has peed on the little plastic thingy she bought at Shoppers Drug Mart to confirm that yes you should have used protection, the wait is over. Here is post number 1000.
I was taking my time to look back, look wayyyyyy back (and I'll call Rusty), at alot of my old posts. I am happy to say that, like many of us on this board, I have been pretty consistent in my opinions and views. I believe that is important. However, having said that, there have been times where many of you, because of well researched and well presented arguments, have brought me around to YOUR way of thinking on a topic. And, in my opinion, that is what this board is all about. Like my buddy Nilsey, my hope is that, in our passion, we take time to step back and at least examine another's point of view and appreciate it. Too many times I think we get caught up in our passion for a player or coach or subject, and simply jump down the other person's throat. I beleive it is the responsibility of all of us here to appreciate other people's views. Conversely, however, I feel it is everyone's responsibility here to try and do their homework and present their argument in a manner that will convert someone over. Calling someone an idiot and moron will do nothing to further your case. One thing that my liberal arts degree taught me was to have an opinion, form that opinion, but present it with some sort of constructive argument to back it up. So if, at times, my posts seem lengthy, you can blame it on St. Thomas University and my desire to present my case completely.
Much has happened since post number 1. I guess where I ate up alot of my 1000 posts was during the time perceeding and following the firing of a good friend and a good man. I am a firm believer in the saying that everything happens for a reason. I believe that about what happened to Claude. Although I will (to my grave) disagree with how it was done, I do now agree that it needed to be done. I spoke with CJ last night after the 2nd period. He was on the lazy boy watching the game and having a couple Molsons. His wife, Karen, had left to go to a friends because the cabbage patch coach was driving her nuts. Hollering at the TV, pacing, and at one point, throwing his bag of potato chips at the tv. Like he said, "I am now a fan just like you guys". Guys, he still loves this team and the players and he wants them to do well. But he told me last night that the more he sees, the more he realizes that Gainey had to step in because a major shakeup is needed and he could not provide that. As he said to me "Barry I am a coach, not a daycare provider" lol
But what his firing taught me is this. He showed me what integrity is. What class is. And what dignity is. He taught me about commitment and staying with your convictions. I have always believed he was a great coach and , judging by the phone calls he has received, others agree. But he could not coach and motivate a bunch of guys who did not want to work together. Hell, even the GM can't get them motivated lol.
So guys, thanks for listening..and hope I live to post another 1000

Good on ya, Barry. I love your emotion and passion.
Personally, I think all this CJ talk is because you are CJ. If you'd spent more time hand holding and reading educational stories like See Johnny. See Johnny skate. Shoot, Johnny, shoot! and less time with Daly and his gals, you'd be better off.
Actually, when are you going to convince the real CJ to post a couple? Just a hello (to those who've supported him) and up yoursto the others....

Barry, you have opened our eyes to what really ails the Habs! Especially because of your friendship with CJ! You're our inside man! Your posts are alway a learning experience of our beloved Habs! Sometimes we hate hearing the truth like someone telling you, your high school sweety isn't a hot!
And-o and I were a couple of the posters that questioned team leadership before you arrived and we were ganged up on but now we're all coming around to the truth of the matter! Leadership needs to be addressed if the Habs are going to turn the corner! No unity on this team is killing our chances to make the playoffs!
I've been off line for a spell due to problems with my system, but now I'm back and would just like to say congrats to Nil and yourself, and keep 'em coming.I've come to very much appreciate your insight and sense of humor over the four years or so (or is it five, not sure ) I've been a member of this board. I missed the Vancouver debacle, which is just as well, I guess. If Habgirl herself says Theo was playing badly, he really must have had a stinker. You said that CJ himself said that there are problems in the dressing room that needed Gainey to sort out, and if that's true things are a lot worse than I could have imagined. I sure hope theystart to improve fast, though, because I'll be on my way in a little over a weeks time. That reminds me, Mario, I haven't forgotten our get together for the Bruins game at the Cage aux Sport! If anybody else has any suggestions as to what to do, where to go in Montreal, don't be shy, I'm ready for everything. Most of all three habs win, needless to say!Cheers all and keep your chins up!P.S.Barry, please pass on my warmest regards and best wishes for the future to CJ if you get the chance. I think what happened was terrible though you are probably right that it had to be done. Team Norway will probably be looking for a new coach after the next world championships... just a thought...
Well stated 33, where the hell have ya been for the last 5 years??? It's great to have an insider so to speak. Ryan Walter coached my son for 3 seasons and it was always very cool to sit down and listen to his "many" Hab storys. I still see him for a chat every once in a blue moon. It sure would be great if you could talk CJ into popping in on the board every now and then.
HAPPY 1000.................normie
