You are both wrong lol. NOthing to do with any of that. He had an extra hand protector on the top of his hand, and as the rules state, if you cut or injure an opponent with such extra padding you get a match penalty, its a simple call that comes straight out of the book.

Don't blame the ref on this one, blame the protector

McCarthy, low brain, was probably planning this prior to the game starting tonight.  He is at the best an amateur hockey player and posing as a member of a 'rock' band  in this city.  His claim to fame is getting players such as Souray involved in infractions to have them removed from the game.  He, McCarthy, being thrown out of the game will have no effect on the team as his contribution to the team on a regular basis is NIL.  Taking someone such as Souray out of the game is his 'raison dete'(???).  This is how the Flames operate and they expect to 'go all the way' with this reasoning.  Very boring hockey.

Souray was an idiot for fighitng him.  He knows the rules, he saw Rivet try to break it up, he 'thought' about it and then he still fought.  If he wants to be a leader on this team he can't take stupid, selfish penalites like that.  He wasn't even doing it to protect a teammate, he was just doing it for himself, but it cost his teammates.  I hope he apologized and learned something.

According to some posters he should be captain. I think captains should know the rules, NO?

Souray plays 20+ minutes a game.  McCarty plays 12.  Absolutely a brilliant trade-off for the Flames.  I would have to say Souray should know better, should know the rules about his "hand protector", after all the guy is a captain on this team.

Shame on Souray. He's been asked to step up his game publicly. He's admitted that he needs to. He knows that Markov is out. His team has a slim one-goal lead. AND he's had more wrist operations than you can count. But still he decides to fight McCarty, a loser since day one. Now granted, giving him a match penalty for "attempting to injure" when you have two big, strong galoots trying to beat the snot out of each other, is a little ridiculous. But he cut McCarty with that little wrist-guard of his and the rules are clear on that. He took himself out of a very important and close game for nothing more than ego. The team did not need him to fight somebody to rally them to get back in the game. They were winning. His bonehead move ended that...

Yeah and that costs us the game, real SMART. Not what a leader should be doing out there.

You are right John. In the ehat of the moment and after being elbowed and taunted by that idiot he should have stoppped and said "hmmmm...I should not do this because I have a brace on". As far as I am concerened it was Gaineys fault for not having anyone up from Hamilton capable of fighting and putting Siouray in that position.

Barry, we know where your posts are coming from. It's kinda like and-o with Sak, if anything goes wrong with the team it's his fault. Ever since CJ was on his last legs you were all over Gainey and pretty much anyone else to shift the focus off the coaching. Your friend is gone so it's time to get over the negativity you bring towards the Habs. Like I said in the past, maybe you need to stop watching for awhile cause it's not doing you any good. Come back if the Habs don't make the playoffs cause you will feel better then. You can rag on BG, Carbo, Sak and whoever else you like at that time.

As for Sak, he is the captain of this team and will be until BG decides differently.

You know lads everyone is looking to blame someone...BG, Theo, Saks, Bonk, Souray etc.   I guess at the end of the day it is a team effort, but there has undoubtably been individuals who aren't keeping their end of the bargain.  I have harped on these guys before, so I won't bother doing it again.  I do think it is getting about time to make a trade.

Either way it is frustrating being a Habs fan these days isn't it?

My hat goes off to Souray for fighting McCarty.  We all know there is a big difference in skill levels, but if Souray doesn't fight for us, who is going to?  We need a goon.  Thats all there is to it.  All teams should have one.  I say bring back Langdon.  He may have only scored one goal, but the guy would fight anyone, at anytime.  Its Gaineys fault our top defenceman last night was put out.

Stop raggin on souray for fighting...... i'm sick of this team NOT fighting and getting bullied around, and i cant even remember the last time one of OUR guys turned a renown fighter into a bloody, disgusting mess (wrist protector or not).... i will GLADLY trade that fight for souray playing in the rest of the game, it sends a message and it's exactly the attitude we need (plus souray's absence prevents him from pulling the bonehead defensive moves that we've seen him pull all season)

I agree....Souray had to drop his mits..It's his gritty way of showing leadership! Like Barry mentioned( John you became too personal to his post for attacking his posting rights) that Souray couldn't just skate away with no one else on the bench to take care of McCarty! McCarty would of had free rein on our players all night..someone had to answer the call and I'm glad Souray pounded him!

Gainey needs to call up his enforcer and let Souray play the game!

As I just said on another thread, Rivet should've taken that fight. He put his nose in there just before the gloves were dropped, then ran away.

Someone has to take some fights, how long are we going to let Kovalev and Koviu get pushed around.  Pittsburgh just made the right move bringing in someone to protect Crosby.  We need to do the same, let our skilled players play, not get banged around all night long.  My god, I think I saw AK get hit 6 times in the second period alone last night, where is his protection?
