Koivu & Sundin...

...are in the same boat!!!  In fact, both Captains have been just shy of brutal this season, especially considering their ice-time and roles (10 goals each...30'ish points so far)!

Consider this...they have played almost the exact same number of games...scored the same number of goals...and have almost matched each others point totals!!!

Fortunately...Saku is payed much less (as he should be) than Sundin!

Imagine swapping these two!!!???  (The idea might not be so far fetched anymore!!!)

T.O. would jump at it to gain some wiggle room under the Cap!!! AND...Bob would jump at it because Saku is not signed beyond this season anyway...although, since the Habs would be forced to take on such a HUGE salary, Toronto would need to assume a few million dollars of the contract per season (or maybe pitch in a low priced asset in order to sweeten the deal for Montreal).

And-o (as you all know) would make a deal like this...although I'd demand that the Leafs include either Ken Klee (and eat $2mln per of Mats's contract) OR go straight up for Saku (and eat $3-$4 mln per of Mats's contract).

And-o:

I have a better idea.  Why don't you simply go cheer for the Leafs?  They're closer to your home, and there would be no salary cap or contract considerations!

Then you could become a charter member of GoLeafs.com (TM) and make posts that they should get rid of their non-productive captain, and go after Saku Koivu...............

Sheeeesh..........

Nilsy...sticking your head in the sand does NOT make a problem go away!

Saku's contributions have been GREATLY exaggerated!

The Habs need more from him than the so-called intangibles he brings to the team, especially as we head into this compressed schedule down the stretch!

A point a game is pretty tangible in my book.  Plus the intangibles.  I'd be happy to see him as #2 centreman (he's not really in that elite #1 group), but I would not like to see him traded.

But Andosey, I really question your loyalty to the Habs.

Gotta agree with Nil. Andy you backed Bonkers and his big salary before the year began and he has stunk it up yet you still back him and would probably want him as captain.

Some of your posts are good but the constant ragging on Sak is way past tiresome.

I agree that Skas is NOT a number one center. Point per game or not, your number one guy needs to score more goals. When is the last time Saks scored 30 goals?

When was the last time Morrison got 30 goals for Vancouver and he has Bert and Naslund as his linemates.... Interesting eh?

Undoubtedly, we will continue to have opposing views about the Captain…but And-o has a growing sense that these differences are going to get resolved soon, as Bob plays his cards (so to speak).

In terms of whom And-o thinks should Captain the Habs going forward…give Souray the ‘C’ for now (Shelley sure has impressed And-o dealing with the coaching change…unlike #11 who basically made like an ostrich, which should sound familiar to many here)  with Rivet and Kovy getting an ‘A’ each for now.

However, And-o believes that the long-term candidates for “letter-men” over the next several years include (eg. Higgins, Chipchura, Markov…perhaps even a guy like Murray – only with more talent – will step out of the shadows).

…ultimately, And-o hopes for a guy who will live in Montreal 365 days a year (although that is not totally necessary…I just think that it does help)!

Anyway, I guess this is why there are menus in restaurants (different tastes).

P.S.  The argument against the Bonk/Huet for Garon deal will soon lose all credibility, especially if Carbo/Bob have their way.

We haven't had anyone step out of the shadows for ummm like 10 years, why would we have someone do so now?

We will have to agree to disagree.

just to add my 2 cents, why does every solution involving Saks include trading him? If he goes, at least Garon/Bonk will be replaced at the top of the regret list

hockeyman would rather have Saks lead a team into the playoffs than have Sundin.  We have caused upsets with Saks while the Laffs with some pretty good teams under Sundin have folded like a cheap tent.

...trade for the points output, costs more and has to reestablish himself as a leader of his archrival? On top of that, the guys from Chilly Beach will have to change the #s on the back of their jerseys. Unless they want swap but out financial obligations somehow decrease AND Koivu promises to resign with the Habs this summer, forget it.

I would never want Mats.  His hair is receding faster than the ice caps and he has terrible Swedish wickets.  Wouldn't want that mug staring at me wearing the red, white and blue.

There's a lot to disagree with here, but let me just pick on the suggestion that Markov could be captain.

I agree with JohnM, the anti-Koivu thing is a bit much after a while.

What was the last time Gainey or Carbonneau, both past captains, scored 30 goals?

My silence on the above subject matter says it all. And-0....just plain stupid talk from a very odd duck...

"Someone who lives in Montreal"...what the H-E double hockey sticks does that have to do with anything? SOOOO typical...
