Sportsnet.ca -- The first half of the NHL regular season saw the Montreal Canadiens face challenge after challenge, many of those made public and some definitely contributed to the recent firings of Claude Julien and Rick Green.
Star netminder Jose Theodore has been at the centre of the storm surrounding the Habs.
His inconsistent play this season led to a brief stint as a backup to Cristobal Huet and relentless speculation that his time in Montreal would soon come to an end.
Tuesday evening on Hockeycentral, news broke that Theodore's issues with the Canadiens run a lot deeper, and perhaps, came to a head in a November meeting with Montreal General Manager Bob Gainey, Habs assistant coach Roland Melanson and a representative from ITECH Hockey.
Sources told Sportsnet the meeting stemmed from concern Canadiens management had with Theodore's off-season equipment change. Gainey and Melanson asserted the former Vezina and Hart Trophy winner was giving up too many rebounds and was struggling with his new glove. It is alleged Theodore felt pressure to rethink his three-year endorsement deal and consider going back to his old equipment, or try a new company.
Sources also said with his confidence already somewhat rattled, Theodore left the meeting unhappy with the message he had been given and that he was prepared to accept a trade rather than abandon a company he had chosen to work with.
Cooler heads prevailed, and the two sides in conjunction with the equipment manufacturer agreed to tweak and redesign his gear in an effort to regain his form.
And while Theodore's struggles continued through November, December and early January, he has been in goal for both of Montreal's victories since Gainey, and Guy Carbonneau took over on the Canadiens' bench.

He would rather play with crap gear than be a winner. What a douche
I can say with 100% accuracy that the Sportsnet article concerning Theo's equipment woes is accurate.
My co-worker's husband is a senior manager at Mission ITECH. And it was passed on to me last month that Jose does nothing but complain everytime he walks into Mission Itech's offices here in Montreal. Theodore blames his equipment supplier for his woes

Just more testimant to what I have said all along about what is wrong with this team and Theo. Lack of ownership. When things go wrong or you play poorly, you never look at yourself, always others. I don't care who is in charge of this team, we will NOT have long term success until that attitude is changed. Anyone who think so, is either kidding themselves or knows little about hockey.

I think that photo was from MSG after game two this season (note shoulder marks on the back of his thighs where everyone was carrying him around like a hero)

Can't... stop... laughing... E-bay now this... you is on a roll!
Your graphic production capabilities have now reached legendary status! Great work. Makes visiting this board time well spent. Now, can you do Theo in a corn-row? With his me-first, gangsta mentality, it seems like a natural...
