You know, I had completely forgotten about that one (and I'm a French Canadian). You're right, by doing this, he has resurrected what had been a dead issue. I frankly don't care if he made the comments or not. There are ignorant people all over the world; whether he's one or not, I have bigger and better things to worry about.

Look- hockey is an emotional sport. Tensions ar ehigh..things are done or said on the spur of the moment that, 3 seconds after you do them, you regret it. Does this make it right? Of course not. I have no doubt that Shawn Avery used the N word with Georges Laraque although Avery denies it. Is Avery a racist? Probably not. Is he guilty of being stupid an dputting his mouth into gear before his brain? Yes. But in the heat of battle you strike out with the first weapon you have..your mouth. This politician desperately needs a thicker skin and a life. The french and acadian people are too proud to let something said on the ice paint all anglophones with the same brush, or to even see it for more than it was..a dumb remark said without thinking. I am sure that had Doan known the player's Mom he would have said something about her army boots or weight instead.

Hey, s$^t sinks to its own level of buoyancy, happens every time. It's unfortunate about the N word, though, because one of the things non-hockey fans perceive about the sport is that it is a whites-only group of thugs. So instead of hearing about Ovechkin's gravity-defying goal, you hear about what some idiot spurted out after another guy slammed him. Reinforces the no-teeth, no-skill, "Slap Shot" image of the game that's been the major block to getting more Americans into watching.

It's such a desperate, uncreative reaction, I can see why people want to point fingers at guys like Avery. Myself, I don't spend time blaming the dog for leaving a stinky parcel on the sidewalk, so I'm not going to spend any worrying about losers like Doan and co.

This is bringing the whole Doan to the Olympics talk back to the forefront. Why he didn't leave things alone is beyond me. This could get really ugly....and fast!!!:

Doan should not be on the Olympic team...period. He rode the Gretzky Gravy Train onto the team. Crosby would have been a better choice. Hell of a lot faster too. I leave Spezza and Staal out of the argument becaus they are centreman.

Because the politician is dragging his name through mud, I'm glad he is fighting this. Why is this politician sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. Yes this is bad timing and will leave a black eye on the Olympic hockey team, But I'm glad Doan is standing up for his rights and character. I also believe that Doan wouldn't say the things he is being accused of. Shane also gave time for this guy to retract his statements but he didn't.

I don't know about the current situation...but he shouldn't be on the Olympic Team!
