By the way, for everyone who thinks that Bob Gainey is a class act, remember this. He had been speaking with Carbonneau for a week. He allowed Claude to run practice on Friday and name Huet as his starting goalie. How was Julien let go? Gainey phones him at home Saturday morning to tell him his services are no longer required!!!. No "come to my office". No "let's go for a coffee Claude we need to talk". Nope. Phone call telling him he is all done the day of a game. Come clean your office out when no one is around Claude. Claude was not even allowed to talk to the players and thank them and say good bye. I was aware of this Saturday but did not want to say anything but it came out in the media today. A phone call BOB?!?? Is this how you represent a class organization? Is this how you reward a guy? I can guarantee you that if it was Guy Carbonneau he was canning that it would have been handled differently. But hey, that is why Carbonneau is being "eased into the hot water". Carbo has been put into a can't lose situation here by his buddy. If the team does well, Gainey can give Carbo alot of credit this year. If they do poorly, Gainey can take the blame. Not a bad gig Guy.


Julien was offered a scouting job within the organization and to his credit, he told Gainey where to put his scouting job. He is a coach and a damn good one, not a scout.

Yes, BG did not handle Julien's firing well at all.  Pretty disrespectful actually, I would've much preferred it to be done with more class.  I'm shocked CJ wasn't given the opportunity to say good-bye to his players . . . I'm also a huge Packers fan, and they fired their coach the day after the regular season ended, at least Sherman was given the chance to say adios to the team . . . not sure what to think of BG at the moment.

Apparently Gainey did not want any distractions for the team on the day of a game and in a sense I can appreciate that as does Claude. The team comes first. I can tell you that some of the players (Souray for one) have called him and he is meeting a couple for a beer as soon as the schedules permit.

There is no doubt that CJ is the scape goat here.  It's almost too bad the players got off so easy.


I don't know all the details of the canning, but that is the nature of the game and why these guys get paid the big bucks.  I like CJ and I wish him well, but business is business...and Gainey knows the game - on and off the ice. 


No one ever said Gainey is a great guy, but everyone knows he gets results...

I'm glad he told Bob where to stuff it.  Very poorly handled; I agree.


On the other hand, since Claude had Huet starting the last game, Gainey must have given him some free rein on personnel matters.

Boy isnt that typical ,what a shame  BG will get his one day. He too will be let go and all I can say is dont let the door hit you in the ass

Nilsey- I thought of you when I heard that lol. Bring back memories? At any rate, it is done and over with and I am happy with the guys we have coaching now. In spite of ho wthings were handled, we are in good hands and these guys will get results.

So if CJ turned down the scouting job what does that mean? i.e. does he still stay in the organization, does he still get paid or is he cut loose to do what he wants now?

Johnny- as I understand it he still gets paid but is free to explore his options. I think the scouting offer was just a sympathy thing. Claude did not want to have a job "created" for him so turned it down.  I do not expect him back in hockey anyplace until next year.

I cannot swear by it as we did not discuss that too much John but that is my understanding. He is under contract as a coach so will still get paid even though he did not want to be a scout. I will try and find out for sure and let you know though.
