This was a good move for the team and the future. CJ was a good coach who was liked by his players but wasn't able to get everything out of them. I wish him the best of luck for the future.
With Carbo behind the bench we have a proven leader who won't allow players to take the night off. If they try they will be up in the pressbox a lot sooner that CJ put them there.
Even when we were winning in the beginning of the year it was barely by the skin of our teeth and it showed that our system was lacking. When so many things aren't working, i.e. PP, PK, goaltending, defence and scoring it is obvious there is a problem out there.
I hope this is enough to turn the season around for the Habs.

john- with all due respect, I find it odd that you are not up in arms about hiring Carbonneau as a coach?!?? Were you not the one who's words were "We need to stop hiring rookie coaches"? Do you really feel that being a door opening assistant and absolutley NO formal coaching training makes you a good choice as a coach or makes you "experienced"? Please do not take this as an attack in any way, I just want to hear from people on this board who felt we needed a more experienced coach and now support Carbonneau? As far as not allowing players to take the night off, w ehave way too many to sit. Julien tried benching players. Gainey's first move as new head coach is to reward Theo with a start. Boy, that'll teach a player for taking a night off eh?

I think Carbo knows the game better than Claude, on the ice where it matters most. Guys like Carbo know what it takes to win the big game. CJ is a great technical coach and will do well where there is less pressure and with a team with alot of kids. This is not a slam against you or CJ, it was time to go.
I do not disagree with you John. Now that the emotions are passing and the dust has settled I am actually happy for Claude because he will be given the chance to relax and start next year off someplace else. I just find it extremely odd that some people indicated that he was a rookie coach yet he has more coaching experience in one year than Carbonneau has in his lifetime. I have no problem with agreeing that Julien probably had to go..something needed to be done and since Gainey seemed unable or unwilling to make a trade, then the coach is all that is left (because we KNOW that the GM does not go). What does baffle me however is the fact that I have not heard anyone say "Why did we hire a guy with far less experience than the guy we canned"
I am not saying that Carbo cannot be a good coach. However, we will need to be patient because he will be learning as a head coach and it will take awhile. Demers said it bets today. He said teher are 7-8 gusy now who have had coach's fired.

Loved CJ---but sorry Barry, this was a good move. IMHO.
