There is alot I can't say and in respect to Claude, I will not. He needs to keep his reputation intact so he can find a job elsewhere. I can tell you a couple things in a very general way. There is a leadership problem on this team. He was being told who to play and who not to play. And those who feel that this has been planned for awhile are not far off base. All I can say is that there is no way that Gainey could have justified this move without the team going into the slump. I for one am disgusted by the choice of Carbonneau as a head coach who has been given a long term contract. Regardless of who was just fired (a former world junior, AHL and National Under 18 coach) I have a problem with hiring a guy who's resume to date has consisted of playing hockey and passing notes to Michel Therrien and Dave Tippett. This is the experienced coach we are looking for?!????!????? At least Claude will not have to put up with the "rookie coach" label now wherever he lands.
I am a habs fan through and through. But I can tell you that if some of these so called "leaders" quit on the coach as seems to be the consensus, I am sick to my stomach and we have major personell issues on this team. But hey, I am positive that Carbonneau's vast experience will have em up and running. Where is the leadership and accounatbility on this club? I have not heard one single player, including our captains, take responsibility. Sounds like status quo to me as that has been the situation all year. These guys have blames it on injuries, the flu, the schedule and now the coach.
You may recall that way back in November I said that if Gainey starts to make trades AFTER Julien is fired, it will look pretty funny. He has had months to make a deal but instead, chose to leave his coach hung out to dry so that he could fulfill his agenda and get his guys in there. I can almost guarantee that he makes a deal in the next 2 weeks which, to me, will smell bad.

I watched what the team had to say and they were all unhappy that CJ was fired. He was a good guy, we all have no doubt about that. He just wasn't able to put a system together that everyone bought into and could play with. Yes there are players that gave up and that's unacceptable. BG will take care of that, give him some time.
Carbo is a proven leader, one of the best in Habs history. He knows the game better than Claude could hope to on the ice, where it matters most.

But this flies in teh face of yoru rookie coach theory does it not John?

My comment regarding rookie coach was more along the lines of NHL experience. When you get to this level, you need to deal with alot more politics, $ issues, etc.... Carbo knows what it takes to win when it counts.
barry, i along with the rest of the board would like you to pass along our thanks and best wishes to Mr. Julien for the way he conducted himself as a member of the habs organization . he was a good coach for a underachieving team and unfortunately he paid the ultimate price for his loyalty . please express our well wishes to him and hope his next team appreciates what he does for them .

Thank you Mcneil. I have asked him to come on the board in a week or so and read the well wishes. He loves the fans. He loved his players. And I can tell you that it would have really hurt him to sit at home and watch guys show up who had been invisible for 4 months tonite. Because he gave 110% and expected the same of his players. But he knew when he took this job the realities of the business and he will be ok.

And tell him there's a comfy couch here in Brooklyn if he wants to come and watch the rest of the season with me. I could make him tasty snacks, and his personal insight would be a welcome addition to the Center Ice package...
