 I know time will tell but I wonder if the players take this to heart or just assume Gainey and Carb have wanted to do this for a long time! How serious do they take the termination of two good men?

They should take it seriously - this was a setup in the making for a long time.  BG and Carbs will get the most out of these guys.  Look when Carbs was that assistant along side Therrien - it looked like Carbs was runnning the show.  Players react will with him, learn and respect him.
