I was critical of him when he got to New York for trying to buy a Cup with over paid floaters!

Before the trading deadline and lockout in the last season he totally redeemed himself by dumping all the floaters possible and has-beens like Brian Leetch! If you remeber he dumped Nedved, Kovy, Carter and Holik to mention some for draft picks or young prospects!

He knew the lockout was coming and did the right thing while also knowing his underachievers wouldn't make the playoffs!

The thing that impresses me also is his decision to keep Jagr at the time while I'm sure the Laffs were interested!

He brought in the proper coach to handle this youthfull team while stroking Jagr and they have performed great!

This is the fastest rebuilding I have seen... ever! The core group he kept with Straka, Jagr and Ruchinsky are playing well also and they are getting good goaltending!

If Jagr turns it up another notch in the playoffs......who knows!

I tip my hat to Sather!

At the time, it seemed like a thoughtless Florida Marlins type fire sale. But it does look pretty good now. Genious or gambler?

Sather is a complete and total joke!  This guy hasn't made the play-offs once since he left the Oilers 6 years ago AND he has an unlimited budget. How can you think he is even a remotely good GM?  And I'll add that during the Oilers dynasty was he really that integral a part of it?  You or I could have coached that team.

The only thing he did this season was clean house BECAUSE HE HAD TO!!!!  It wasn't genius. He had to get his payroll under the cap.  These guys were expected to finish in the bottom of the league (just like Carolina) and somehow they have managed to right the ship through great coaching by Renney.  HAHA remember when Slats actually tried to coach the RAngers?

The more intesting thing is how did he keep his job for the last 6 years with the $$$ wasted with no results?

Like I said I was critical of him prior for trying to buy a team! He traded away many draft and prospects for those players! But he reaquired many good young players in a short time and turned the ship around in a short time!

Whether it was gamble or fluke, it worked!
