Is Don Cherry right...should teams draft Nor-Am first???

...would it be better for the Habs to stick with North American born players (with the "tie-breaker" going to any Canadian player) in terms of the entry draft???

since clearly guys like Ryder and Higgins have been head-and-shoulders above Perezhogin, Kostitsyn, Hossa, Balej.

Also, I ask you all - who would you rather have as a linemate in game 7...Chipchura or Plekanecs???

Of course there have been plenty of North American born selections that haven't lived up to expectations...but it just seems like the Habs need players who have been brought up in a more rugged style!

And-o needs a steady supply of Muller's, McPhee's, Skrudland's, Corson's, Gainey's, Tremblay's and Lemeiux's!!!

...at least when you draft Nor-Am's...you almost always get determination!

Try cutting the number of teams in half, until then the point is moot, so what we have to draft is good players

I don't think that the Habs euro-rookies have been given a good enough shot yet, to completely judge them.  I wouldn't give up on them yet, becaue they are pretty touted, but they do need a (physically) strong supporting cast.  You know that Kostisyn, Zhoggy and Plakanec aren't going to go digging for pucks a la Begin.  Although, Zhoggy has looked pretty tenacious at times and you gotta like those hands. Higgins is a little spark plug, just undersized.

I don't think Gainey is going to buy into the "Francophone first" mind set that the team has followed in years past.  He certainly played with heaps of N.A. players in his day...and look how good their team was!?

Historically the Habs have been dreadful in the draft.  Lets hope (Blue) Chipchura and Price turn out to be solid gold.  And for the Montreal faithful, I hope Gui Latandresse turns out to be a solid NHL player.
