Therrien Tirade

Michel Therrien has had enough, get a load of these quotes after the Pens game tonight after the pens loss to Edmonton. Please note that the "Pfut's" are actually FBombs that were bleeped out. This is the direct quote because it sounds so much better in the imperfect french that he uses when he is REALLY peeved lol. Kinda comical actually. Hey Michel, why don't you tell us how you really feel? Cmon don't sugar coat it heehe

"It's a pathetic performance. Half of the team doesn't care. Pfut. You know, it's like, are we gonna be happy to play 8 minutes? I'm not gonna be happy to play 8 minutes. What those guys will say if we take 40% of their salary because they're only playing – or 50% of their salary – because they only play 50% of the time? That's enough. That defensive squad – I think their goal – I really start to believe their goal is to be the worst defensive squad in the league. And they're doing such a great job to be the worst defensive squad in the league. They turn the puck over, they have no vision, they're soft, like – I've never seen a bunch of defensemen soft like this. So, you know, you put the two combination, and… … hey, there's a lot of guys don't care. They pretend to care, but they don't care. Pft." [Q: Is this the first team like this you've had to work with?] "It's a game of emotion, it's a game of hard work, it's a game of passion. You know, there's – hey – Kovalchuk, what he did the other day. There's not one guy who was close to do something. Maybe Maxime Talbot at the end, with 1 second left. He's about 5 foot 8. Did they think that, as a coach, that I got the feeling that the team cares for each other? Wow. You know, try to have a good ambience with the team yesterday. ~Phut!~ Hey. So I guess we're gonna have to come back with the old recipe, you know. It's like – they make my job miserable, so I now make thier life miserable Pfut,  so it's give and take. What can I do? Hey." [question] "I'm so disappointed about lots of guys. Very disappointed. Because they don't care. If they care – tonight it looks like men against boys. Hey." [question] "Aw, Mark, Mark (Fleury). He's playing good for us. Thank God."

Now many of you will say that Julien needs to be more like that. I disagree. As true as much as what Therrien said, I can GUARANTEE you that in todays NHL the players are going to tune him out. If he thinks that they have stopped playing for him now, wait til he sees their reaction now. As a coach I have had a few tirades of my own in my day, but boy this one is the worst I have heard. I just do not feel that players respond to being humiliated like that. I prefer the approach that Julien uses of dealing with it one on one. I think in th elong run you get more results that way. IMHO

See, I knew we didn't have the worst pfutting defence in the league!

With the elderly/rookie/nothing between sandwich they have, those guys are going to hate him the next practice they get.

How long until Palffy wants to be on a real team for once?

A better question is how long do you think Syd the kid will want to play on that pfutting pathetic team? He is too much a competitor to want to stay there, especially after Mario hangs em up.

Wow. I'm glad that the Habs ditched this pfutting guy. Last time I checked it was the coach's job to get great performances out of his players. If they're not "caring" or not hustling, Therrien has only to look in the mirror to discover why.

This kind of talk gets no one anywhere. It may get a few players juiced up for a few games -- if only to prove the coach wrong. But long-term, it's a deadly virus that only a new coach can excise.

I couldn't agree with you more, Barry33. CJ's approach is a better one -- and over time he will get the best out of his players by approaching them as adults.

Therrien's tirade wouldn't get my son's squirt team to perform. It might scare them some, but it certainly wouldn't get them playing as a team.

Same goes for the sad-sack Pens.

Sadly Sid is stuck there until he is 25, and unless the team grows into a very competetive team, he wont be there after. He will prob want to move on to a better team...HOPEFULLY THE HABS. Feel bad for the kid. HEck if hes that good on a team like that....surround him with REAL talent and we'd have ourselves one hell of a player. Imagine Crosby say between Heatley and Alfredsson? OUCH

Therrien has always had that problem. I remember when he coached the baby habs in Fredericton. The players lost respect for him because he was always embarassing them in front of the media, fans and their peers. Hockey players are no different than you and I . We do not want our boss calling us down in front of everyone. The pens, like the habs, are a very fragile bunch right now. And telling them they suck (although they do) will not help the confidence. I do not disagree with what he said. They are soft. They are lazy. And I sense and feel his pain (trust me I have been coaching awhile..been there and done that). Tearing into that team is going to set them back.

Team990 in Montreal was having a field day with this today.  I heard it at least 5 times and it was always getting funnier.

Now on a serious note, is it just me, or does Crosby yap too much.  You didn't see Lemieux, gretzky, Yzerman, Sakic, ever behave like that night after night.

mario, I posted the other day after watching the home and home last weel with the Pens and thrashers. It got to the point that even the announcers called him a whiner. If someone touches him with a stcik he almost gives himself whiplash when he over embelishes. He was touched last week, slid down on the ice and was promptly called for diving. On the other hand , he is 18 years old and now has an A  I think the A went over the top. I think that was a big mistake putting him in that role.
