Theodore for Bertuzzi
Permalink Closed

So there was a rumor coming from Toronto that Theo was headed to Vancouver for Bertuzzi.  I smiled when i read this.  Why, cause Bob will be all over that trade.  Throw something else in there too, like Theodore + Zednik for Bertuzzi, Auld, Cooke.  Would it be nice to see the big fella suit up for us.  Who would he fit in well with i wonder???  Maybe where he plays with a small center like Morrison and a skilled winger like Naslund, we could go with Koivu, Kovy and Bert.  I get goose bumps thinking about it.  Then later on since Florida seems to be trading there team away, how about we pick up Luongo and Bowmeester too.....ok, now i'm dreamin, so what, a guy can dream can't he.

No need to pick up Luongo, 85% chance he'll sign here when his contract is over

Well, the rumours aren't going away, that's for sure.  I've read them on hockeytraderumors.com, heard it on a French Montreal sports-radio station (if anyone else caught Sports Academie, let me know if what you thought).

So, Theo for Bertuzzi?  I've seen it with Auld and I forget who from Montreal.  But, if we really think that Luongo will be here next season, then this trade to dump Theo makes sense.  i still don't think it will happen, but I'm seldom right.

The other Theo trade I hear is that he's headed to Colorado.  Imagine the Avs winning another cup with an x-Hab goalie they rob from us?  Yikes.

You know as soon as he gets traded he'll become the trophy winning goalie he once was, but as long as he stays in MTL he'll coast along doing so-so.

That may take some time, if itīs up to Keenan

Luongo's agent Gilles Lupien and Florida Panthers GM Mike Keenan have begun discussions on a long-term deal.

"I can confirm that we're in negotiations with his agent Gilles Lupien," Keenan told The Canadian Press on Friday. "But I won't discuss it otherwise until this comes to a conclusion, hopefully soon."

Lupien and Luongo rejected a $25-million US, five-year offer last summer on the eve of an arbitration hearing. He was awarded $3.2 million for this season by the arbitrator.

Luongo, 18-18-6 with a 2.99 GAA and .916 save percentage this season, is slated to become a restricted free agent July 1 unless he re-signs, and would qualify for unrestricted free agency in July 2007. But the Panthers want to avoid losing him.

florida is negotiating and trying to sign him to long term contract, so that 85% is getting smaller

Read this and think again! He turns down $30M/5yrs saying he wants more than money - he wants to be part of a winning team. If that doesn't say "NHL teams, come take me away" nothing does. Since he can still stay in FLA if they match another team's offer, what does he have to lose? Nothing.

I wonder if he could possibly see us as a winning org. in the shambles we're in now?
