Anyone else catch these comments made by Don Wittman?
A few wins in a row would really enable Gainey to snoop around for a deal without appearing sooooooo desperate!!! Perhaps Gainey will finally make a move by next weekend???

I heard the comments, but didn't reach the same conclusion. Wouldn't he simply be down on the farm to scout how his young talent is doing, in case he needs a call-up? I don't see this as proof that a trade is coming.

I think I now see your mistake, Superhab. Mike Keane plays for the Manitoba Moose (AHL), not the Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL). Is that it?

Thanks for bringing up Keane. I have been wondering about something since I watched the Marlies - 'Dogs preseason game in Caledonia this past fall. Bates Bataglia was in the Marlies line-up. If you look at the Moose's line-up, not only is Keane there, but so is Wade Flaherty and Craig Darby. Also, Jason Doig - 158 NHL games. I have never played any sport at a high skill level, such as making a living at it, so I wonder, when is it time to hang up the skates and call it a career? Do some of these guys think that they will be back in the bigs? Do they just figure they will miss it too much? On one hand it seems a little sad, if they are just looking for one more shot at glory. If they think that by being a long time veteran they can help the younger players and maybe help themselves to get into coaching, well that's great.
I dunno, I just wonder.

I wonder the same thing everytime I see this sort of thing. It depends on the individual. Esa Tikkanen playing in Finland looks like a case of wanting to hang around the guys he grew up playing with. Fleury playing for Belfast of the UK league (slightly above high-school level) is sort of sad. I'm sure he knows that there's not much future for him at a high level, and the abyss can look pretty bleak, especially if you have a substance monkey on your back.
I'm sure there's a thousand other reasons, but those two just sprung to mind.

Fleury had been playing in a senior league in Ontario for a while. I think he still likes the game, loves being a star, likes being around the guys, and wants to be away from the limelight for a while. I'll bet he resurfaces in the NHL before long.

I hope so, for him. Coming from a family that regularly won Olympic gold in the 1000m substance relay, I know too well how the demons lurk in the bottle, so it would be nice to see him get the help he needs to finally kick it. Then bring that incredible skill to the Habs! Even if it's for a last hoorah!

Ex-NHL star Fleury ejected for going after fans during British hockey game
COVENTRY, England (CP) - Former NHL star Theo Fleury was ejected from a British Elite Ice Hockey League game Sunday night following an altercation with Coventry fans.
Fleury, playing for the Belfast Giants, was in the penalty box in the second period when fans began yelling at him. Fleury then reportedly tried to get at some of the spectators, earning a game misconduct from referee Mike Hicks. The contest was a testy one, with the News Letter of Northern Ireland newspaper reporting security had to be called to the Giants bench on a number of occasions, resulting in stoppages in play.
Coventry won the game 3-0, handing the Giants just their second loss in two months, a span of 15 games.
Fleury has 12 goals and 45 points in 22 games - as well as a team-high 131 penalty minutes - with Belfast, which tops the league standings with 47 points from 30 games. Coventry is fourth with 34 points from 27 games.
Belfast coach Ed Courtney blamed Coventry fans for the incident.
"Shameful, classless once again and I don't speak for all the people in Coventry but most of their fans are an embarrassment," he told the News Letter of Northern Ireland. "It's an embarrassment to the league."
Coventry has denied hearing any abusive remarks, which bothered Courtney.
"For Mike Cowley, the owner of the team to come to me and tell me he hears nothing is an embarrassment," Courtney told the newspaper. "He was in the room with me when the linesman said he had heard what was being shouted, words aimed at Theo that again I don't need to repeat."

Looks like The Troubles starting all over again...............
If Theo's that intense, I say the Habs should take a look at him...........

I saw him play here a bunch. He's unlike anything I've seen out there when he's on. He had that wierd ability to make everyone look like they were just standing there. It's too bad a guy with some HOF skills has to play in Northern Ireland.
