I hate to do this- Julien

I hate to put the spotlite on the coach because I know there are some out there who are just dying to get at him today, but as they say, "the best defense is a good offense". So I am going to tell you exactly what I know as of this morning, from the cabbage patch coach's mouth. Keep in mind that there are things he does not tell me and rightly so. There are things that go on in my company that I do not run around telling people. But I will tell you what I knowas I have told him not to tell me anything he does not want repeated lol. I spoke with Claude this morning because I had to call him regarding an unrelated matter. This is what I know:

  1. As you know there was a closed door meeting last night. He tells me it was not pretty and that "everyone was allowed their say". If you had something to say, that was the time. He flat out asked the players if they were confident in him and his coaching and their was a resounding yes. He told them to say their piece and if they had any problems or issues with him to tell him without fear of recourse.

  2. After they got coaching out of the way it went to the players. Some had some things to say about different players and their attitudes. I suspect that this was an attempt to better find out exactly where the dressing room issues were.

  3. Several players were called out by Julien in the meeting and he pulled no punches. He went as far as to say that Ribs and Dagenais would soon be having company upstairs and that no one was safe. He also expressed disappointment in the top line which specifically was put out to shut down the top guys and were a minus 5 and had 2 shots. He basically has said that the players being paid big dollars are not playing like they deserve it.

  4. Theo was left in because he did not want the team to have a scapegoat for a loss. Trying to reenforce the "team concept".

  5. Practices will continue to be tougher. He gave them an indication of what he has  in store for them.

Thats all I know which is not much guys. I still feel this guy is a good coach and is doing everything he can. He knows what he is doing and is a proven winner. Which comes down to the players we have.

Maybe it is time for Gainey to sign a free agent or make a trade for an older veteran with some leadership skills to help sort out the dressing room - maybe the problem is every one is close in age (I'm not sure who the oldest player is : Kovolev ?) such as when they had Gilmour (who helped get The Habs into the playoffs when Saku was sick) maybe a so called outsider might help. Mike Keene is still playing in Winnipeg or get Damphousse back playing he did well with The Sharks in his last season but he could have burned bridges during The NHL Lockout being a negotiator (sp) for the players. I also think maybe they are missing Juneau/Quintal (both wore the"A" in their last seasons with The Habs) more than they think......

Well, a rumour on Spector's site this morning had Ribs and Dags going to the Blackhawks for unnamed returns.  I hope it is true.  As for Julien, there is no one else I would prefer coaching this team.

I really think Julien is a good coach.  Maybe not great, yet, but very good.  I question why it takes him this long to start kicking butts.  Actually, I think it is just the lack of NHL experience.  But once you get it going, it is easier.  He needs to instill accountability into each of his key players.  (Barry did you really call Claude or did you read the article on TSN?  lol, kidding)

As for Ribs and Dags to CHI, I say bye-bye.  But who'd we get for them?  No way we land an Aucoin or Lapointe.  In the right role, Dags can get some goals and, face it, Ribs can get points.  But he needs to be out of Montreal if he wants to be a star because he's living in his fantasy world being a Hab.

There's other boards?

I'm still in confident in CJ. It would be a shame to see him go. Maybe we can lure Keenan away from Florida when we make that big goalie trade. That would solve everything

Hi Folks,

Long time no post. I'm too lazy to register for things. Anyway I finally got around to it. Have been reading all the posts though, great stuff for the most part.

Just wanted to add to the rumor above, according to CHEZ106 in Ottawa a trade with Chicago is brewing.

It was Ribs and Zed for Tyler Arnason (RW) and Duncan Keith (D). This would give us a second puck carrying defenseman, unload Ribs and Zed, and effectively replace Zed. Could work.

Wonder who our new second line center will be.

I agree that CJ is a good coach. No one but a good coach would have gotten so much out of this team early in the year. The team had a good camp, and came out blazing. Then adversity hit and reality set in. Injuries are a part of the game. Teams that are either deep in talent or rostered with gutsy players step up and get the job done. But the reality is that this team is neither loaded with talent nor deep in players who play like they really care. Other than Chris Higgins and, at times, Begin, who was really hustling last night vs. The Pens? Without the commitment to skate like hell, this team is a second-rate squad and certainly not playoff-bound.

Which brings us back to the coach. Like it or not, it's part of his job to get that effort out of his players. If the effort's not there, it's both their fault and his fault. So it's clear, something's got to change and somebody's got to go. If it were my call, I'd trade anybody before I'd dump Julien. On a team that hasn't much of a nucleus right now, he's as close as we're going to get.

That would be a bit of an odd trade, as Arnason is a left-shooting center and Keith is a left-shoting D, which would give us 5.  We would probably need a second trade to balance things if this were to happen.  Or maybe they would send Streit down and rely more on our rookie wingers, which would counter CJ's statement about playing for the now and not the future.
