This is the first year I am following the Habs every game and my take on their losses to teams like the Panthers is inconsistancy. As usual, Theodore was keeping the snipers at bay while the defensemen were staring stupidly at the action, or tipping the puck towards their net. When Huet was in nets, the defense was scrambling and taking the body (especially against the Sens). Why do they sit on their haunches with Jose?
Will the team ever lose the 'dump the puck and pray' attitude? They have the talent to play it to the doorstep.
What's with Kovalev? Star puck handler to zip PShot goal overnight. Then again, Luongo fills the whole net without moving.
I don't know, I think on the road they don't play with any such passion as at home..too bad.
To answer your questions...the team sits back when theo is in net because they KNOW he is capable of bailing him out. Its the same on any hockey team...when the back-up starts the team will play harder because the goalie in net isnt as capable as your starter....hense him being the back-up. As for luongo making great saves...you answered it yourself...the guy is massive....covers the entire net by barely moving..thats a really intimidating thing to look at ...even if your kovalev. Only way to beat luongo is on rebounds...14/15 shots will be saved but when you can get rebounds on him...its almost a sure goal...
by the way! Welcome to the board!

Hey, and welcome.
Puck dumping: everyone does it, and it's an unfortunate part of the way the game's played now. Ask Barry about that one.
Jose: I don't think it's necessarily the goalie who's in net, bu the inconsistent performance from the D that just happen to result in what you mentioned.
Kovalev : Still a star stick guy, just that Luongo has stopped 9 out of 9 penalty shots in his career, and by guys like Forsberg and Hossa. In fact, that was his 6th this year, so I guess our "A" is in good company
