Questions and Observations
Permalink Closed

Just a few questions,  I just saw a thing on celebrities who had passed away in the sporting world on RDS, and saw that Paul Buisson (sp?) passed away, does anyone know how.  He did a regular show on RDS before Habs games. Very big gentleman, his shows were very interesting.

Whatever happened to the show "Habs this week" it was on a Montreal channel ( CFCN or CFTO?)  Demers was on it and it was filmed at Sir Winston Pub in Montreal I believe.

Observations; I remeber those people at the beginning of the year who wanted Lantdresse to make the Habs,  well after watching the last 3 games of the juniors, I'm glad he was sent down. He has been benched the last two games and hasn't impressed me at all.  He is a young kid who needs some time to grow. We wont see him with the big team for 3-4 years which will benefit him big time.   Has anyone been watching the Spengler Cup, if so Team Canada's goalie Chioda (sp?) has been playing amazing, he stands up and is always in position.  The most impressive thing is his rebound control, when a puck hits him its like it sticks too him. I hope i don't jinx him before his game today!  The rest of the team has been playing great hockey also, lots of heart and hustle very  entertaining, way more than the Juniors who haven't been playing very well at all.

Funny I watched a whole Leafs game last night at a local watering hole (ok I live in a small town and was bored for entertainment), but one thing I noticed about the Leafs is how they play with emotion! When one of their guys scores they are all smiling and jumping up and down. To be frank (or barry), I just do not see that in Montreal. Toronto has some key guys out right now and the guys that are left have stepped up and done the job. Again I do not see that in Montreal. No wI am not going to debate who's fault that is as we have been there and done that. Some here feel it is the coach's fault. I feel, because of my coaching and playing background, that it is a problem in the dressing room and a problem with leadership. It is very clear that Mats Sundin is the leader of that team, BIG TIME.  Last night they had him Miked and he never stops hollering encouragement.

Whether Pat Quinn is your coach, Claude Julien, or Martha Stewart, the love and enthusiasm for the game, and the heart and desire to pay the price, has got to come from the guys in the dressing room and on the ice. It is clear to me that Toronto has that and Montreal does not. Watching Toronto I see a much more unified team. That is winning games for them right now, no question.  The other thing is that like Montreal. Toronto has players (rookies and otherwise) who go long stretches with no ice time, but when they do get a chance to play, whether it be one shift or a whole game, they step up and contribute. Look at Chercostly. He was benched all season. He gets put in the lineup and scores something like 5 goals in 3 games. The habs need that. Enough of the excuses. I don't care of you hardly see the ice. When you do it should make you even hungrier to perform and prove the coach wrong. As much as it pains me to say it, the difference between Toronto and Montreal right now is huge and not in a good way. New coach? Perhaps. But there needs to be something fixed in that dressingroom and in leadership regardless of who is there. Because the emotion and intensity that Teams like the Leafs play with will kill us down the stretch.
