It was nice to be received so warmly as a newcomer to this site. My wife and I grew up in Vermont and drove up to the Forum for many a game in the '70's. The closest NHL hockey for us now is San Jose and Vancouver, but thanks to satellite tv we get to see every Habs game, although it seems a bit strange to watch opening face-off at 4:00 pm (Pacific time).
We used to be able to get our Habs knowledge fix from the Gazette website but now they require a $10/month subscription. We tried the Hockey News for a couple of years but as far as I'm concerned there is too little news and always too late from that pub.
We're going to rely on everyone on this site to kep us fed with the latest gossip and critiques! Thanks again.

Vermont, eh? One of my favourite places in the world is Stowe, Vt. My wife and I have been there at least a dozen times. What area are you from?
I'm in Halifax, Nova Scotia, by the way, about a day and a half drive from Vermont.

There was a serious effort about five years ago to bring the NHL to Portland. Season tickets were presold with a guaranteed refund if the franchise failed to develop. The league appeared interested but after Paul Allen's people made it clear that he wasn't interested in acquiring another money losing team.
The Winterhawks are well supported locally. On New Year's Eve they traditionally play Seattle and will easily put 10,000 people in the stands. In conclusion, I believe the fan support is there, but so far nobody will come up with the money.
Hey Trapper, just a bit of a hint: try using the "quote" button so we can see who you're replying to. Most of us here have addled brains, and we can use all the help we can get keeping up with a thread!
i rarely use the quote myself only because im too lazy too i just type the name im replying too
but anyways welcome trapper! good to see some new faces. trapper john... i love M.A.S.H...
by the way brook that new avatar of yours... kinda saying the habs are a sinking ship right now or am i misinterpreting?

Hey salted, while I can appreciate your laziness, to hit "Quote" is no more work than to hit "Reply", and less work than to type a person's name, so you may want to rethink your strategy....

Brooklynhabfan and others, thanks for the coaching on the quote button.
