If the Habs were healhy...

We would still have two MAJOR problems that do not seem to have easy fixes:

1. Ribero as a second line center is a real problem...What about landing Doug Weight? I hear he is available( although I believe he has a "no trade" clause that he can exercise).

2 Theo. What on earth do you do with this guy? I think Huet looked WAY more solid in his last two performances that Theo has pretty much all year. But you have 5.5 mil locked up with the guy. His trade stock is low because of his salary. And the more he sucks, the less valuable he is worth anyway. As Barry has said, the habs have no choice but to play him...even if he blows. Now that is a potential BIG problem.

Other than those two items, if this team is healthy, I figure the habs have one of the top lines in the league( Kovy et al). One of the best checking lines in the league( Sunny, Bonk, Bulis). One of the best Grind lines( Begin, Higgins, Plek). We have some real potential solid D-men with Souray starting to play well again. Add Markov, the solid play of Boullion( did you see him nail Neil last night...WOW), solid toughness from Rivet( who Gretzky has said is one of the toughest in the game) and a massive Komi( 6'4 240lbs former first round draft pick).  Other than our shamful top salaried player and our " fancy boy"...that could be a pretty dam good club.

If Gainey would do his job and get us some depth in the middle, it's very possible that even if he couldn't move Ribs, you would be happy to see him on the fourth line. Then we would have balance and offense on all lines especially if Ryder stays on the Begin and Sundstrom line! Just a thought!

Wasn't that something?  One of the best hits I've seen all year.  Perfectly timed.  And did you notice that the Cube came out of the hit with the puck!  I love that little guy!

Problem with that AB is a Stanley cup team is strategically put together. A formula has existed for decades. It includes: two solid scoring lines, One checking line to shut down the other teams big boys, and a grind line to tire out the other teams d-men( guys like Begin, Higgins, Murray or etc).

So you see AB, it's not ALL about scoring. Putting Ribero on the fourth line is even more of a waste of space than where he is now. Ribero is no more a grinder than George Bush is intelligent( Sorry DavidB and Brooklyn).

I say put up some draft picks and future considerations for Doug Weight( I'm sure playing for Bob Gainey might convince him to waive the "no trade" clause). Then trade Ribero for a 5/6 type D-man for some depth back there.

Then watch Ribero score 70 points where ever he is.  Then, have all the Ribero lovers claim that "we should never have let him go". Meanwhile his team is in the bottom 5  in the league...for a reason.

I know Weight is on your mind because he is available but let me tell you he is a has been. He's has alot of mile on his little frame and has lost a step or two and is injury prone.

And I've noticed that in recent games, Komi has been stepping up and playing a lot better. Says a lot about his character after all he's been through. I think he will develop into a really great d-man.

Agree 100%. Fat is great for Albert, but not for the Habs

Hey not to worry. I am sure Ferguson Jr. is drooling over the prospect of picking up another over the hill and overweight hockey player for the geriatric ward.
