Doan recieves gross misconduct

On the scoresheet it has Shane Doan marked down for a Gross Misconduct at the end of the game vs. the habs. I guess he said something to the officials that warranted one. Can't wait to ask St-Laurent about it, lol.

To be honest Jay I felt those two made some very questionable calls last night. The one that baffled me was the last goal on Theo. Why exactly did he blow the whistle, go upstairs to review it, then allow the goal? I am sure hi ssupervisors will talk to him about that one.

I refereed with Francois St-Laurent, the younger of the 2, and I can vouche for his skills. If something is called, you better believe its a penalty. As for the review of the Phoenix goal, I was as baffled as you were, but there had to be a reason for it, they don't just randomly go up, someone must have said something to the officals that warranted a look upstairs. As for penalties called in the game, what did you find odd? I thought it was ok IMO. A bit lax against the habs at times, but nevertheless fair.

Was it just me, or did that whistle before the goal sound a little different?  Maybe higher pitch?  I'm guessing it was someone from the crowd rather than the refs.

Actually the calls I was questioning were the goals that were reviewed. I felt that they called a good game overall and it was a nice change from some of the "we paid to come watch the officials" games we have seen in the past. I felt that realistically the Sundstrom goal should have been disallowed (but it was nice to catch a break for a change) but the whole whistle thing and subsequent review after on the last goal baffled me. Perhaps it was a whistle in the crowd?
