Canucks in DESPERATE need of a goalie
Permalink Closed

Canuck's goalie Dan Cloutier will be out at least 4 months with knee surgery. Backup Alex Auld is not ready to carry the load. Look for the Canucks to give up more than they normally would to get a number one goalie.

Or at least for a platoon partner for Auld.  There are not many #1s out there.  So unless they want Theo for Bertuzzi and change then what have they got for what we got?  And would we even want to trade with Vancouver?

Hmm, Canucks need a #1, So lets send off OUR #1 and stick a rookie or a very shaky Huet in net and bring in bertuzzi. Thats going to make our team MUCH better!!!

Not that I like the thought of trading Theodore (I do not want the Habs to trade him), but what is it that makes Huet shaky?  He has played in over 50 games the last two years that we had hockey and has posted a 2.41 GAA or to be honest, 2.43 in 41 games in '03-'04.  That same year he had a  907 save percentage and 3 shutouts.  Yes, he had a losing record, however, he was allowing less than 3 goals a game.  Looks to me like he wasn't getting very much support from the team in front of him.  Sound familiar?

I am not sure why guys that haven't even been given a chance to play are being crapped on.  Sure, during the entire season they will need Theodore to be his best to have any type of success, but, at some point, Huet will be called upon to play. I, for one, can't see BG picking up Huet as a backup and be willing to just throw away games when Theodore needs a rest.

Johab- I was not throwing that out there to suggest we should trade Theo. Besides with a 5 million dollar contract I doubt that Vancouver or anyone else will be pounding down Gaineys door. I have said it before. This team is in a position that it needs to sink or swim with Theo. All this talk about playing Danis or Huet (aside from once every 10 games) makes no sense. We have 1/6 of our cap room tied up in Theodore. So he i snot going to sit on the end of the bench opening the door. Fact. When Gainey signed him (along with his trade of Garon) he made a commitment to Theodore.  So now we need to all hope he gets back to the form he had a couple years ago. ENd of story.

i just looked at Aulds stats and if i were Vancouver i wouldnt be TOO TOO worried about a #1. They wont make a big splash ( definately no trades for a #1 ) Because what happens when cloutier comes back. That would be unfair and unsportsmanlike to just dump Cloutier because he got injured. Most they will do is look for a capable goalie to carry some of the load off Auld. Auld has been doing pretty well. he is 11 and 6 this year! Not bad...thats a better record than most starting goalies!

The canucks and Sabres look like Ideal trading partners right now.

Yes they do especially with Cloutier being put on the Long term injury report which will save them 2.4 million this year, and Biron's contract at 2.1 million, I smell trade

Biron has won 11 straight starts.  I can't see him being on the trading block.

In October Reiger stated that he was shopping Biron around and that he still is going to get rid of one of his 3 goalies, whether its Biron or not, time will tell.  Playing like he has helped alot and will sweeten the pot.

There aren't enough nets for Miller, Biron and Noronen.

I see Biron as the odd man out.

The sabres see Miller as their number 1 guy and goalie of the future.

Biron has more trade value than Noronen, and Noronen is a capable backup.

I wouldn't be surprised if Marty ends up out west, and if he does it will be tough for Cloutier to get his job back next season.

sorry barry, i meant to quote Figaro on my first reply. I really dont see any sence in trading a goalie for a player, those trades dont happen very often....especially players of that calibre. My reasoning for calling Huet shaky is 1) he was on my pool at the time as i desperately needed a goalie to get me games ( sorta like the posistion im in again this year with cloutier out.... I followed huet VERY closely and although he got 3 shutouts, the games he lost were of a large amount. yes he was letting in ON AVERAGE 3 goals a game...figure he gets a shut out one game...the next he lets in 6 goals....thats a 3.00 average. Kinda hard to know what kind of goalie your looking at. I havent seen him play for the habs yet so he still has his chance...but im not gonna be so quick to defend him if he doesnt impress me in his first game...IF he gets one.
