MONTREAL – Canadiens GM Bob Gainey announced Tuesday that forward Andrei Kostitsyn has been recalled from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.
Kostitsyn, 20, was recalled on Dec. 1 and played in two games with the Canadiens, on Dec. 1 and Dec. 3, during which he was held pointless.
Kostitsyn has played in 27 of the Bulldogs’ 29 games in 2005-06, collecting five goals and 12 assists and 26 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot, 200-pound right-winger, born in Novopolosk, Belarus, was the Canadiens first pick (10th overall) in 2003.
I like that move but only IF HE PLAYS. I don't believe in wasting room on the bench with someone who will play 30 seconds.
I was just about to post the same thing. I hope he gets a good chance to show what he can do. Use him for a fight, if the need arises - anything, but play the guy!

That way we can have two fourth lines. We already have the following fourth liners: Higgins, Plecanecs, Perezhogin, Dandenault, sometimes Streit, and Murray.
Looks like this move paid off. I thought Kostitsyn looked very good out there, and he even scored. Just goes to show you what can happen when Julien plays our young guns.
I've always had a soft spot for Kostitsyn and would really like to see him excel as a Hab. Because the year we drafted him (2003) was the year I got my epilepsy under control. I'm not sure if anyone remembers but my first post was about Kostitsyn. So I was thrilled to see him get his first goal tonight, and am hoping for many more, he's an inspiration.

Good for him, and good for you, Z!
There's an example of role models, barry.

What the heck is this guy's name anyway? On his jersey it clearly says Kastsitsyn...but some places it's Kostsitsyn....etc...Anybody know?
On the Canadiens website, they spell it Kostitsyn. Proof of the poor quality that TSN puts into print, in the game recap they spell it both ways.
Rookies Andrei Kostsitsyn and Tomas Plekanec scored first-period goals while Niklas Sundstrom, Michael Ryder and Jan Bulis had the others for Montreal (16-8-5), which won for only the second time in seven games.
and;Kastsitsyn, used sparingly in two games for Montreal last week, was recalled from AHL Hamilton on Tuesday to replace ailing captain Saku Koivu, who had a flu.

I hope they don't put him on the top line when Koivu and Kovalev return. The "KKK Line" would not exactly be politically correct...........

As you saw from his goal he has a heck of a shot, and a very quick release. He is a goal scorer plain and simple. He needs to work on his consistency though.
As far as the name goes, it can be spelled either way, it is translated from russian and his name in that language has all kinds of funny characters we do not use in English or French.

Like Kramer and Newman? But seriously, it would be great to see him and his brother on a killer line three years from now, even though we'll be looking like one of the great detroit teams from a few years back. Then again, nothing wrong with that!

Speaking of Newman, does anyone else think that Yvon Pedneault from RDS looks like Newman? To me, he looks just like him, except for the hair.
I like Pedneault, as I like all of the RDS folks. He, like many Quebecois, has a habit of occasionally putting an "h" in front of words and syllables that start with vowels, and dropping the "h" where there should be one. He doesn't let that slip too often, but I caught him several times last Saturday referring to the "Hana-eim" Mighty Ducks.
It reminded me of some Newfoundlanders (who do the same, sometimes) I knew back in my building supply days who spoke of "Hace Ardware".
