I realize this board is all about hockey but lets congratulate Kleibrink and Gushue on winning their curling trials to represent our country at the Olympics in Turin.  Way to go teams!!!

I didn't realize Gushue had won.  Good for him!  What a big feat for a Newfoundlander to make it to the Olympics.  Wow!  I have connections to him too - he's a contractor and buys all his materials from one of the stores in my former employer's group.  I have never met him, but know many people who see him every day in the summertime. (It's only two degrees of separation here in Atlantic Canada.)

Way to go, Brad!  (And Kleibrink, too, of course.)

I am a huge Russ Howard fan and I really liked how he interacted with the "kids" this week. I love the passion and fire that Russ brings to the game and the "old man" as Gushue calls him really settled that team down

The nearest curling rink is an hour north of here, and if you mention it to an American who's not from Wisconsin (I know a bunch) they look at you funny, and then get a glimmer of recognition from the last olympics as the thing Jay Leno makes fun of. Too bad, they don't know what they're missing. (I still don't get all the rules in American Football, to be fair)

Yes Barry, Russ is one of the reasons this team won.  Alot of curling fans don't like him because of his temper and the way he is always yelling when he is curling.  Its the way he plays with lots of passion and fire, and some people take it the other way.  There is a reason he was won so many curling events because he is great and plays with fire.

I got the chance to play against Howard and his father and son in a bonspiel in Creemore Ont.  He was a delight to talk too and learn from, very nice gentleman and he bought the first round and if you know curling that means Yes he won the game.  I've also competed against the John Morris rink who finished third in the qualifier.

Why's hockey not as big in Norway as in Sweden?

It definitely is one of those deceiving sports.  I tried it several time, and totally sucked at it.  I was lucky if the stone even curled the right way, let alone get anywhere near the target.  And draw weight was another matter.  I have great respect for curlers - it is extremely hard to be good at it.

And yes, I've met Colleen Jones several times (I told you it was  a small world around here!).  Her lead, Mary Ann Arsenault lives about a tenth of a mile down the street from me.
