With everyone talking about trading here (myself included) I would want to let you guys know that I have a feeling we'll be getting someone, or a package from the Might Ducks or Atlanta Thrashers, sometime this season.
Maybe for big brother Hossa? The Ducks have nothing, do they? On the other hand, Florida is looking to trade Luongo and it appears that the stakes are climbing. Here's what TSN has on it:
AROUND THE RINKS - The Toronto Star is among those on the Roberto Luongo trade rumour bandwagon, talking about Luongo and D Jay Bouwmeester going to Vancouver for winger Todd Bertuzzi, D Ed Jovanovski and G Dan Cloutier. Considering Luongo will be a free agent at season's end, that does seem like an awful lot for a team to surrender, unless they have an extension agreed to with Luongo. Under the new CBA, contract extensions cannot be signed until January.
- At the same time, the Rocky Mountain News picked up on a New York rumour that Luongo would be heading to Colorado, by mentioning that inexpensive young players like G Peter Budaj, D John-Michael Liles and RW Marek Svatos hold some appeal for the Panthers.
- The Boston Globe weighs in on Luongo talk, by suggesting the Panthers might turn to the Philadelphia Flyers, and asking for LW Simon Gagne. The Edmonton Journal suggests the Panthers might have better luck trying for rookies Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, and that the Ducks are another team that might be able to tempt the Panthers.************
Imagine Theo for Gagne? Or Richards and Carter? We'd have to grab some of Theo's salary. Or what about Theo for Luongo with some mix in there to get Jay B? I still don't think Theo's on the block but it is an intriguing possibility.
Luongo will sign with the Habs next year anyways if he doesn't go to Vancouver and win the cup. He might be traded to either Van, or Denver. But from what I've been told, he'll be here next season.
Anaheim has some good players we could have, they are shopping Around Sykora, Sandis Ozolinsh. Two players we could use....
There was talk about Sykora before. He's a good player, but he's been injured and his salary's 3 mil....so he might be available for very little. Thing is, he's the last thing we need; a quick, skilled winger.. if there is any area we are strong, that's it. (And Sykora's not strictly a finisher, but more of a playmaker if I remember.)
Ozolinsh is the kind of guy a team making a cup run picks up to provide that extra ingredient. With us, though, he might have to play some defense. And he's not so great in that department.
I get the trade info from someone I know on my website that I own, and they've been pretty reliable since the start.
As for Luongo, I work with his mother and I've also talked to him on a few occasions. I actually have a side bet with him going on. Except if I say it, no one would believe me so I don't bother.
I'd also like to note that perhaps Gainey was waiting till this break that the team will have to perhaps make a move, so that the new player(s) have time to work together in practice.

I'd believe you! Spill it, Jay!
