I believe he knows what he is doing, he did a good job in Dallas bringing a team together, I think he knew what he was doing when he called up Hainsey, he knows how the waivers works and he knows what he needs. I think we should just give him time to make the move he wants to make and see what happens.
The way I see it is BG gambled that other teams wouldn't have interest in Hainsey. If it worked, it would help for the time being with our D problems, if it didn't, well . . . let's just say I don't think BG had plans for Hainsey being a long time Hab anyway.
It didn't work and the bad thing is we pick up half the tab for the year and we can't use Hainsey in a package deal later on.
I'd say it's fairly obvious BG is not a stupid man, he knew exactly what he was doing and it didn't work out the way he wanted, but he was willing to take the chance. I don't think we lost toooo much. But that's IMO of course.
Hainsey's a long-term project. It's a bummer, but Gainey gambled that Hainsey wouldn't be needed. It's clear at any rate that he's not ready (note that Columbus picked him up, the worst team in the NHL, only team that would play him).
What I think WILL happen out of all of this is that we will pick up a defenseman sometime this season.
Why are we so quick to justify Gainey's gambles when they are mistakes! We lost Hossa and now Hainsey that we are still paying! Two first round choices!
I'm not bashing Gainey but like every GM, he is not perfect and has made mistakes!
Why don't we all look at what he has done for the Habs so far overall! He has brought in Kovy and that was also a gamble that worked out because he fortunatly signed him. How about drafting Andrei Kostitsyn! Was that not a gamble also as he is a health risk and may never have the stuff to make it to the NHL? That was also a high pick! How about the Garon trade?
I realize all GMs gamble and some are mistakes! This also goes for Gainey. He is no different!

I believe he knows what he is doing, but the Hainsey thing was just dumb. If he knows how the waiver system works then why in the hell did he do what he did? The more time we give him the less games we win!
I have watched Garon play and he is doing well, I miss Ward, Hossa , Czercoski, and I think Hainsey would have been good in a couple years. Where do we go from here????

Well its unfortunate that people are very quick to jump on his mistakes, afteall, like you said, all GMs make mistakes. He's 1 million times better than our previous GM.
Hainsey was going nowhere with the Habs. He was not in the plans and had ample time to porve himself. However I would have liked Bob to have gotten a 40th round pick and a case of Molson for the guy instead of nothing and paying Columbus half his salary. As for missing Chercostly? About as mych as I miss my ex-wife.

True enough but never the less, he isn't perfect which was my point!
