I Just had to laugh

It is expected that i would get **** at school for a Habs loss to the Leafs but today i had to smile at laugh at one guy. Some people were smart enough to just shrug and say ya they deserved to win but others have no sense. One guy said its one thing for the leafs to win but a whole other story when the win and the refs are against them. I couldn't help it i cracked up. I just had to share this story.

Must be cool to attend school and live in Canada. Down here all they talk about is the latest rap song or the Britney Spears concert. Not many kids care for hockey too much. There all into NFL and stuff.

But I must say, when the Habs were in the series a couple years back with Boston, and we were losing the series 3-0, and then we came back to win each one, I vividly remember the conversation with this real hockey punk.

"Hey man, Canadiens suck!"

I said, "It's not over yet."

"Keep telling yourself that."

And WE BEAT THEM! Awesome time for me down in beantown!

It is a fairly interesting experience. I've actually found that ever since moving to Halifax for University, there are habs fans everywhere. This is something I am not used to, as in the comunity I grew up in they were predominantly Leaf fans. But whenever I have some sort of Habs attire on, someone will see it and strike up a conversation about Les boys.

Probably the most interesting Habs related story since coming up here would be that I just recently went to the Parade of Lights that we have every year and this guy walked by, I believe he had a bit too much to drink, he hugged me because I was a habs fan.

Lots of Habs fans in the Maritimes. The anti-Quebec thing isn't so strong out east because we have no rivalry with Quebec, and maybe because there are a lot of Francophones in the Maritimes. Most of us are pretty comfortable in Montreal too.

Where I grew up there were basically four teams you would root for (although sometimes you'd find the odd Oilers, Flames, Nordiques, Islanders fans): Toronto #1, Habs #2, Bruins #3(lots of Boston-PEI connection, Irish thing), and Detroit, who got to be popular in the 80s and early 90s cause they had a couple of guys from the Island (esp. Gerard Gallant). Nowadays there are some Lightning (Brad Richards) and Columbus (Doug MacL. and "Turkey" Gallant again) fans, plus I think most people tend to support Edmonton and Calgary as underdog teams, but that'll change with the CBA. There's also a Senators connection because of the PEI Senators, but they didn't last long.

For me, my #2 teams are probably Ottawa or Edmonton, because they are Canadian teams, they are small market miracles, they aren't Toronto, etc...But honestly I don't care a whole lot about Edmonton or Ottawa. Could barely name half of Edmonton's team.
