I wonder what suspension the referees will receive for, IMO, was the worst case of Homerism since the Simpsons was created.

Montreal Canadien defenceman Andrei Markov has received an automatic three-game suspension for shoving a linesman after Saturday night's game between the Habs and Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre.

There is no video evidence of the offence, but the incident was written up in the referees' report to the league and Markov's suspension, under rule 76(a), category three, calls for an automatic three-game suspension, although there is a provision for an appeal.

How does an appeal work do they hear the appeal before the game ?? Iguess it is fruitless anyway I think the refs should be reviewed

When a suspension is announced and the appeal needs to be heard in a timely fasion, they will usually do it over the phone. And, like you point out dave, the player then gets suspended and they move on.

In my opnion those refs should be fired for the crap they pull on saturday night........I'm really proud of Markov, he knew what the refs were doing was wrong and he stood up for his team mates......if I was on the ice I would have done the same thing.

I've gotta admit, the refs were really really bad that night. In fact this is two games against the leafs that are not even questionable. I'm a pretty relaxed and reasonable guy, so I'm not one to rant and rave without cause. But that was a very poorly called game! I mean REALLY bad. I watched the game over( my wife taped it), and you should see it--its pathertic. Good for Markov, it shows some real hate for loosing.

I understand everyones frustration including my own. The thing that really bothers me is you know , what can you do about it?. I would love to see BG and CJ make some type of public statement RE officiating if they can without being fined. Then again after you make a statement the refs in the future games may hold it against you. I guess we let it go ,and as a judge would tell a juror you must stricken it from your mind. In a few months we can laugh at it when the Habs are back in first place fresh off wins over the Leafs and Ottawa who will fall faster than Paul Martins government. Hows that for optimism ?????

NilD I am very interested in your government. I enjoyed watching the nightly boradcast of the National until this last August when AlGore bought the channel from CBC for 70 million and statred something called current TV So now I am relegated to watching it on line. I find your politics very interesting. I knew the non confidence vote was coming.
