I want to just let a few people know that just because the referees ref in a certain city, they do not live, or cheer for that city. They travel just like teams. I know this because 1)I am a referee (not NHL level obviously), 2) Dave Jackson is my neighbor , 3) I refereed with Francois St-Laurent (A new referee in the NHL).
Level 1 is for new referees, then after the 1st year they get upgraded to level 2. After 2 years you can apply for level 3, level 3 allowes you to referee in CC, BB, and AA games. You have to pass a day long examanation in which you have to get 90% of theory and pratical.
Then after you have proven yourself, you need to be chosen to do a level 4 exam. With that you do AAA games (I refereed Latendresse for the last couple of years, he's also another one of my neighbors (3 streets away, lol). Level 5 entitles you to do AHL, WHL, LQHLM. Level 6 is for NHL and International play. I won't be going higher than 4, by the way it looks now.
Wel jay I suggest you look back at a recent post from someone on this braod. They were on a plane sitting near none other that Kerry Frazer Mr Frazer decided to make some biased remarks. So not all refs are unbiased
Well they sure turned a blind eye on McCabe last night(who is as slow as molasses) while he clutched, grabbed and laid the lumber on several Habs. I guess they didn't want to disturb the hockey universe that is Toronto(sarcasm)
lol, I just read your post in the other thread. Well like I said, I didn't watch the whole game cause I was at work, so I can't comment. But I do know Kevin Pollock is usually a good referee.
To be honest, whenever I see Dave Jackson, Paul Divorski, Rob Shick or Bill McCreary (Best NHL referee IMO) I know there is gonna be a great referee's game. Although I do not have many problems with referees, only one I can think of is Kerry Fraiser.
Jay1982 I know you only saw the last 2 minutes of the game last night therefore you did not see the disallowed goal, however have you had the opportunity to see replays of same? If so, what do you think of the call and non-call of the penalty against the Leaf player since the goal was disallowed?

I have said it before and will say it again and again (I am getting old so perhaps it is my Alzheimers and I do not remember what I said). Yes it was a penalty looking at it as an isolated play. However in the context of the whole game it was not. As a coach, all I ask for is consistency. The other night in Atlanta, as agonizing as it was to watch, at least those two guys were consistent. They called a penalty on you if your body odour knocked over a guy. But Saturday night these guys were horrifically inconsistent and let much worse go (both ways) before this. Rivet did not take away a legitimate scoring opportunity and there was only 4 seconds left. Why bring out the whistle then?
