I have logged a complaint against the CBC for tonights broadcast. Here it is:
After watching the Montreal Canadiens vs. Toronto Maple Leafs game tonight on CBC, it is clear that there is favouritism towards the Maple Leafs. After one of the Canadiens goals, Bob Cole made a statement in regards to "us", meaning the broadcast team is part of Leafs media. Canadian taxpayers fund the CBC, it is bad enough that the Maple Leafs are on every week, but to have a biased broadcast when two Canadian teams are playing is unacceptable. I would suggest two new commentators take over who are not biased as this would serve Canadians much better than what is occuring currently.
If anyone else wants to log a complaint, please do so at:
JohnM ,I am from south of the border and CBC may not care, But I also filed a complaint.
They better care, these idiots are using my tax dollars to pay their salaries. The more complaints the better. Too bad we can't log complaints against the Refs as well.
JohnM, although I do not speak french, I watched RDS (as I do for all Montreal games) therefore I was unaware of Cole's comments but I have no problem supporting your complaint. I have on a number of occasions emailed CBC complaining about their biased (Toronto) broadcasting but as you are probably aware CBC in no way will respond.
I wish there was something that could be done about the biased officiating when it comes to Tor games. 1. Why was the legimate goal by Montreal disallowed; 2. There were a number of blatant calls that could have been made against TO tonight and were not-why; and 3. Someone pls explain to me how a rational referee could call a penalty against Rivet. It always seems that in games between Mtl and Tor that we have questionable decisions in favour of Toronto.

It was a penalty, its a tripping penalty because Rivet did not touch the puck when he dove for the puck. Instead he caused the TO player to fall, so it was a bad play by Rivet considering it was the end of the 3rd, with no chance to score.
Agree or not, that's the call, and it won't change. As for the other two points, I didn't see the disallowed goal, so I won't comment on it. And as for penalties being called on one side. I didn't follow the game till the last 2 minutes of the 2nd since I was at work. So I can't comment fro that exact point, but i do know that referees cannot see everything on the ice, even though they are 2 to call the penalties, thats the way the game went down, no changing that.

Technically, as far as I know the rules it was a potential penalty call, IF, the Ref wanted to be an ass because there were definite infractions commited by the Leafs that weren't called. At least one of the two Refs had better have seen the "non-leaf calls", for most of them happened around the puck.
The Markov "non-goal" should have counted and if the Refs couldn't stomach letting the goal stand as it should of, then at the very minimum there should have been a penalty called against the Leafs on that play.
I'm really starting to get sick of the preferential treatment Toronto get's from the Referees.

What an intresting site. I found out by looking at the ref roster that the refs were all from Ontario. Which would than be realistic that they would be Leafs fans. Which could explain the no terrible calls and the no calls. Sure at the end it could have went both ways but there were some much more blatent trips that occured late in the period that went on called... so it can be understandible why this occured.
One more intrested thing is the lack of good new blood in the NHL reffere system. Bob Langdon is becoming a NHL ref, hes terrible i thought he was fired from the AHL after he let a game get out of hand which resulted in Perezhogin giving Stafford a two hander. Gord Dwyer was also pretty bad in the AHL with many questinable calls and he too lets most games get out of control none to the extent that Langdon did. Harry Dumas (or dumb@$$ i like to call him) is pretty bad, seemed to me he was calling a lot of nothing and letting some blatent stuff go in the AHL.
The other new ones i don't really remeber, even though i did see them ref, which has to be a good thing.
So we should all be prepared for the next generation of refs.
For the CBC stuff I get on Center Ice down here, I've learned to keep a blender full of nails next to the couch so everytime that idiot opens his mouth, I can hear something more pleasant. Just a little pulse is all it takes. I'm referring to the blender, not Cole, who clearly has no pulse
Did they really say "us" about the Leafs? Commentators on National TV...unfrigging believable...!
Well...this drives me nuts too, but let's keep this in perspective. First, the French broadcasters for Radio-Canada are just as biased for Montreal. Second, the REAL problem is that they mostly show Leaf games. When I was growing up in PEI, late 70s early 80s, you'd get just as many Montreal games as Toronto. I don't know what happened, but it did help me become fluent in hockey french.
Finally, you all should check out the announcers down here in New England. On NESN (which does Boston games) when the other team scores, the announcers don't even raise their voices, they just kind of moan..."and they score", as if it's a huge letdown. Then they yell and scream when Boston scores. It makes Cole and Neale sound like totally great guys, and very balanced. I'm not joking. And same goes for the Rangers announcers - although there they have John Davidson chipping in, and he's pretty good for American hockey coverage. There's a decent hockey culture in the Northeast, and Davidson's part of it.
but NESN is regional, and wants to get everyone excited to go and see the great new deals at Bill Brunswick's Chevy-Rama.. CBC is meant to be unbiased.
I know what you mean about NESN. This year Jack Edwards has joined Andy Brickley. Im sicxk and tired of all these biased announcers was Danny Gallivan Biased. Also will CBC give a S*** about our e mails???
Well...And-o submitted a complaint to the CBC...but I doubt anyone will respond - unless the police show-up here first!
And-o NEVER whines about the officiating...or the announcers (that is one of And-o's BIG peeves)...but And-o let loose on the CBC tonight (one day after the incident) and I feel goooooooooddddddddddd!!!!
Thanks JOHNM!!!
.....trust me guys...last night will be recalled as the night the Habs won the division!!!
