GEORGE BEST - RIP
Permalink Closed

Anyone who cares about football will be saddened to learn of the death of George Best today.

He was easily the greatest player of all time, and his career was tragically cut short by alcoholism

I'll be raising a few to him tonight

If you're interested in knowing a little more about him, you should check this link out BBC NEWS - GEORGE BEST DEAD

I don't know anything about soccer, but what about this guy named Pele?

Definitely a toss up between the two, but Pele had a much longer career, so had more chances to show his stuff.

As a Manchester United fanatic I can only second the sentiment. I must say that I'm pleasently surprised to find out that someone here actually knows who George Best is! I've already hoisted a few in his honor and passed the time waiting for the Canadiens game watching some of is finest moments on video. As for Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, etc, well yes. George is generally thought of as the greatest BRITISH player ever. Thanks for the memories George and may you rest in peace...

i just read a quote from Pele describing Best as "The greatest footballer in the world" At that point it's even ridiculous comparing Maradona, Pele and Best, they were so far abovve the rest of the pile, there's no way to call one as the true "Best"

I think possibly George was a better all around player than say maradona. Thing is Northern Ireland never qualified for the world cup finals during his career so he didn't get to show what he could do on the highest level.

Being a huge England fan, I'm always torn with the seperation of the 4 British countries when it comes to football. I can't imagine Bavaria or in your case, Finnmark playing as a seperate team.

How about a quebec team in the olympics? Now there's good thinkin'
