.....and this has NOTHING to do with last night's shootout but - Dagenais does have a quick release...and he has shown a great nose for going to the net...and he singlehandedly creates "traffic" in front of the net!

In fact, And-o would have placed Dagenais in front of the net on the powerplay before Bonk!

...since he already takes up a spot on the roster...why not get a few miles out of him!

I'm not saying to play the guy 20 minutes...but 5-to-8 minutes with the likes of Pleks and Higgins wouldn't be all bad!

...and clearly he isn't the only Hab vulnerable to penalties!!!

Have you heard of a little stat called +/- ? Dags may score one or two in a game if he played 20 mins, but would end the game minus 2!! How is that productive? At best he is a power play guy and that's it. kinda like Ribero( although, you know, I actually thought Ribero played with some grit last night. I actually saw him take a couple of hits. WOW).

I have no comment...if I had my way he would be playing senior hockey in ALberta

Not a big fan of Dagenais, but Ando makes a good point here.

As for +/- it is a meaningless stat. Often it tells you more about who a line tends to get matched up against than anything else. Often the third line will have bad +/- because they spend a lot of time trying to deal with another team's top line, and without emphasizing offense as much.

To prove my point, take a look at Dagenais' +/- from last season (03-04). Nearly the best on the team! Only one guy had a better +/-. Brisebois ! (?!). Ribeiro even had +15, mostly because he led a good offensive line (with Dagenais on it) that never had to face other teams' top lines.

Can it be? A Dagenais lovefest?

Plouf, its only a meaningless stat if you are unaware of the facts you just stated. You are automatically a liability player if you can only be played against a third or fourth line( like Ribs and dags). But technically you are correct.

So let me clarify. If Dags actually played 20 mins as And-O suggested, that would mean he would be playing against better players----thus the minus numbers I suggested he would produce. But you are right, to a unknowledgable hockey fan, those +/- stats can be deceptive.

He's not going anywhere this season, so lets make the best of him. How about using him on the powerplay? I don't see him much on the ice (obviously), so I don't really know how he plays. What do you guys think?
