Now that the Habs have won and lost one shootout each what do you guys think of them? personally i still dislike them, they take away from the flow of a game. THe only way i would ever accept them is if they first played 10 minutes of overtime and then had 5 shooters each. 10 minutes will most likly result in a goal, and i find it much more exciting, lets be realistic will a guy like Dags ever get a breakaway? I also don't think 3 shooters is enough, i think you need 5 there testing the five man shootout in the AHL and don't be surprised if they add it next year.
Personally, I like them. They get the crowd on their feet, but there should definitely be 5 shooters. And on a side note, what happened to not posting until we beat Toronto Saturday, Superhab?
Thats what the league says, they energize the crowd, yet they try to phaze fighting out, and when there fights the crowd goes crazy. Besides your too young to appreciate good hockey anyway.
In regards to your side note, meh, i got lonley, noone to talk to at school about this :)
Personally I want to go back the old win-lose-tie system. In other words play your game, 5 minutes of OT, and if it is tied you each get a point. If one team scores in OT they get 2 points and the other team gets zero. Showing my age I guess. The other thing I am starting to hate is the hot dogging shown in the shootout. Everyone seems to be doing the old lift one leg up before you make your move thing. As a goalie I can tell you it would do absolutely nothing to throw me off so Ican only assume it is for show.

Thank God someone has some sense. It's been watered down since that nonsense came in. Maybe even a football (soccer) style 3 for a win, 1 for a tie situation would be nice
Showing my age I guess.
What we need now is Guy Lapointe

Love 'em when we win, hate 'em when we lose.................
I'm a bit of a traditionalist, so I had no problem with a tie. The 5-minute OT 4-on-4 was good enough for me. Maybe extend it to 10 minutes, you'd hardly ever get a tie (and if you did, it would have been exciting - and deserved).

One thing that I have noticed is that goalies seem to be a helluva lot better at the shoot-out, on a penalty shot and even 1 on 0's. I am racking my brain (don't worry, doesn't take much effort) and I can't think of too many shoot-out's where three goals were scored by one team.
Still, I wish the shoot-out would disappear.

It's because it's a hermetically sealed play, with no outside confusion. I think a lot of goalies are going to be able to stand up to that sort of thing at this level. Maybe they should have a two guys trying to score at the same time. A sort of Paris Hilton shootout
Thing I don't like is that the loser still gets a point. It makes teams play for the tie for the last five minutes of a game. It seems unfair that in some games the two teams get three points between them, and some games they get two.
Either they set up a system where a win is worth 3, OTW = 2, OTL = 1, loss = 0, or they should just call an overtime loss a loss and make it worth 0 points.
I hated the thought of shootouts until now. I think they are great. Really gets to showcase the one on one skills and is so intense. Love it. If they drop it (and they won't) I'd say screw the 5 minutes and let's just go 60. Anyway, shootout is here to stay in the regualr season at least.
