Nice topic, ray!  Let's see.............

  • Habs/Tampa Bay at the Bell Centre in February (Bulis scores the winner with less than a minute remaining in the game, a 3-2 win)
  • Women's World Championship Gold Medal win over US in Halifax (I think that was this year!)
  • Tampa Bay Devil Rays vs. New York Yankees at Tropicana Field in May
  • Several Halifax Mooseheads' games - including Rimouski (i.e. Sid & Co.) visit
  • Chance bumping into Yvan Cournoyer last week at Dorval Airport

Sports trips...?

Manchester United vs. AC Milan (lost 0-1)

Manchester United vs. Chelsea   (lost 1-3)

Manchester United vs. Chelsea again two weeks ago. Thank God we won, it really sucks to spend the money and take the trip only to watch your team lose at home. Hopefully that won't happen when I go to montreal in February. Apart from that I watch  my local hockey team Grüner every week, they play in the second highest level in Norway. They are of course  not even remotley close to NHL quality, but it's still fun. Interesting history, too. It seems they are the first club in the Oslo area to play hockey, possibly the whole country.  For some reason the Canadien ambassador was in the area (a typical working class district in Oslo east) sometime before the first world war, and asked to see the local sports facilities. He is suppossed to have said something like "this looks great, why don't you play hockey?" The locals of course had never heard about hockey. The ambassador told them about hockey, and they decided to give it a try. They've been playing since 1914. Pretty cool stuff. Nobody still thinks I'm from london,Ontario, do they? Any other soccer fans out there?

How about athlete encounters? The only famous athlete I came accross was Lennox Lewis, (who came through the metal detector behind me) at Toronto's airport. Kind of a shock, I turned around and was like "wow". He was with his wife and baby who he said "just might be the next champ". It also looks like he hasnt been training for a while....got a belly going.

I bumped in to Yvan Cournoyer last week in the Montreal airport.  I once met Mike MacPhee, who now lives here in Halifax.  My wife once refused  a free drink from Peter Mahovalich (this was way before I showed up on the scene; she prefers litle guys!).

  1. Jays - Red Sox (x2)
  2. Jays - Mariners
  3. Jays - Yankees
  4. Bulldogs - Marlies (In Caledonia - Preseason)

Bob Magill was one of my parts suppliers.  And I grew up with Warren Rychel.
