I was at the Laffs' 4-1 win over the Bruins last night. Happened to have our seats in a row right in front of approximately 3 or 4 full rows of Leafs fans. About half of them men, the other half women, almost all wearing some Leafs gear, mostly in their mid 20's to mid 30's. Ladies weren't half bad looking. Must have been between 40 and 50 Toronto fans in all.
Anyway, as you might expect they were having a good old time, especially as the game wound down and it was apparent that the Leafs were going to skate away with the 'W' as the Bruins would fall to their 4th consecutive defeat. (Now what you have to understand is that there isn't a more surly, nasty, short-tempered and demonically dangerous animal on the planet Earth than a drunk Boston Bruins fan who just shelled out 60 or 70 bucks to witness his team go down to yet another demoralizing loss.) We got out of Dodge before the spam hit the fan, but it was going to happen...
There was one guy - a Bruins fan who looked frightengly like Ogie Oglethorpe with a haircut, standing up ON his seat, first yelling every obscenity ever uttered, then with his beer cup firmly clamped between his teeth, both hands offering up the single finger salute, challenging the entire Leafs fan section to rumble. Think of John Wensink skating over to the ice in front of the Minnesota North Stars bench, bowing at the waist, then going "c'mon, c'mon, anyone or all of ya". It was comical. The last thing I saw as I shepparded my kids out of the place was flying beer cups, trash, and anything else that wasn't bolted down. I tell ya, the crap that was going on between the Laffs fans and the B's fans was better than the game.
Can't wait for The Habs to come to town, especially if the Bruins are still in last place with a record under .500.

Sounds like a good time was had by all.
I see there were only 12,000 fans at the game. What's up with that?! I thought Boston was a hockey town.

Total attendance was 17,257. Looked like a sell out (or close to one) from my vantage point. No way was there only 12,000 there though...the place would have looked half empty, or like Carolina.
I saw some of the game on TV, and the announcers said there was 12000-13000 attendance.
As far as the game went, I hate both teams, so it was hard to care. But it's good to see Boston struggling at least. Toronto didn't really play all that well, although Sundin still looks dangerous and Lindros is defininitely more confident with the less-hitting NHL. Allison made a number of really bonehead plays that caused breakaways going the other way.

Our local paper had it as 12,257 (I just re-checked). 17,257 is much better - at least in terms of quantity, but I wonder about the quality!

Johnny- I for one LOVE Boston. I have been to Fenway 3 times, Foxborough once and the old Gardens a couple times (have not made the new arena yet). I love the fact that the fans are so into thier teams. I have alreayd told my son that when he gets driniking age we are going to Fenway (the only way to truly experience the Sox is to liberally partake of the Miller Lite).
Having said that, I am glas you had the foresite to get the kids out of Dodge before sundown. That my friend, is experience.
