Belfour vs. Theo

I disagree. I don't think theo was outplayed at all. Yes, Eddie made a number of saves i the first period, but they were all pretty straight forward saves. I put the Canadiens not scoring down to poor finishing more than good goaltending. Let's face it guys, if theo had let in any of those you'd be all over him! I do feel that Theo should have stopped the two first goals, but I'm pretty damn sure that Laffs fans are saying the same thing.Belfour should have stopped at least two of the Habs goals. Not to mention a number of crazy things he seems to be doing nowadays (the Begin post shot, etc). Again, imagine how you would have lambasted theo if he'd done something like that. As for the fourth goal, well what can I say, a total fluke, that puck could've gone anywhere. Look at the bright side. The Habs didn't have a particularly good day at the office, yet totally dominated the Leafs and should have one by three clear goals. I probably would be more worried if we were firing om all cylindars this early in the season. Rest assured that the likes of Ottawa are going to run into a rough patch when thay start picking up injuries, loss of form etc. Habs will (hopefully) contiue to improve! Just had to get that off my chest...

Theo is the highest paid player on that team and needs to start earning it. During contract negotiations Theo's agent kept referring to him as an "Elite Goaltender". Elite goaltenders do not let in shots like he did last night. The McCabe goal he was not screened on and it goes in from the blueline. The O'Neil goal he is on his knees before O'neill got th epuck and because EVERY PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE NOW knows that is Theo's weakness, Jeffy puts it top shelf. The tying goal, Theo fails to play the puck behind the net..AGAIN.

I have stood up for this guy when he has done well. But the time for excuses is done. If you are to be an elite goalie in this league you best show some consistency is your play Theo.

Barry, don't get me wrong . I totally agree with your assesment of the Leafs goals. What I'm saying is that I don't think the difference was goal tending because the Leafs goalie wasn't that great. The Leafs should have been dead and buried long before the lucky bounce...This is the first game I've seen in this season and I was trying to take in everything. I do see what a lot of the guys are saying about Ribeiro. He does seem a little light weight. I'm thinking about what Ryder could do paired with a "real" second line centre. I also see that we could use reinforcements on defence. Markov and Rivet looked confident, apart from them we were pretty shaky. What I really wish we had, though, was a genuine goal scorer who could bury some of those chances we seem to be always creating...

Eddie blew Theo out of the water, litterally, Theo looks more like a fish infront of the nets anyway. Bet Theo must wear out 10 pairs of goalie pads a season, hell just cross the blue line and he's on his knees leaving 80% of the net open........

did you guys see Theo's record vrs the buds,  4-11 Belfour always plays great against us.  I makes me so mad losing to the buds. The habs are number one,  and my second favourite team is anyone playing the leafs.  Man i'm sick to my stomach, this one is going to hurt for awhile.

I wonder what davidb's sediments are?  Discarded beer bottles, maybe?   Sorry, dave, I couldn't resist!

I have not caught a cold, I was just expressing my opinion. We can all agree to disagree. I watched the whole game last night. I originally posted (after 2nd period) that I felt we would lose because the Leafs seem to have more depth. Theo cause the goal last night. He should have stayed in the damn net and let the D man takle the puck. He goes behind the net fans on a good clear rushes back into the net. I feel he cause the goal. The d man would have cleared the puck, hence there would have been no deflection over his shoulder  down his back or what ever you want to call it. Thats ok Nild  I think as the season goes on, we will have better days. This team almost remionds me of the 93 version. Get gulis back, and I still say if there is a very big offgensive minded dman to be found BG, JC, Jarvis, Green will find him.

I meant no disrespect to you or your opinions. I just found your placing of the letter d rather interesting. I think one thing we all have in common here is the sense of utter dread we all get whenever Theo leaves the net, Saturday night was no exception. Having said that I still think the resulting goal was sheer luck, that puck could have landed anywhere. May merciless retribution land on Toronto on the 16th! (another televised game over here)
