What I like about this team....

Well we won another tight one. I am beginning to think that these guys enjoy seeing us in agony until the final buzzer. All kidding aside..WOW! I like so much about this year's team! What I like is that every night there is someone else stepping it up. Realistically Theo won the game for us last night as we were flat (against a darn good hockey team I may add). But ther ehave been nights were Theo was not on his game that guys like Begin, or Kovalev, or Koivu, or Ribs have stepped it up. We are getting contributions from everywhere guys and that my friends, is the recipe for success. We are becoming a very hard team to play against because who is the other team going to check? You shut down Kovy and you need to deal with Saks and Zed. Or you shut down that whole line and you get our 4th line potting goals. We are definately not a one dimensional team.


The other thing I like last night were Julien's comments. He was NOT happy with the win and claimed that being outshot 14-2 in the 2nd period at home was unacceptable. He is right.He sees the big picture and does not want the players resting on wins. I know CJ and he strives for perfection at all times. If we win the next 20 he will always find things that need to be improved and the team adapts that attitude.

We seem to be turning a lot of games around in the third period...is this because our guys are fitter than the opposition or is it due to supperior coaching, or maybe both?

I vote both.  But, I would like to add the superior team put together (BG).

I like this team a lot, as well.  My fav style is a fast, forechecking team that is always working and almost all the players on this team fit that description.  I would still like to see a true sniper either develop or be brought in to finish off Koivu and Kovalev's plays... so often they make the semi-blind pass into a perfect scoring area, but there is no one there to put it home!  Before that though, I woud still like to see us bring in a top-four right-side D who can run the PP and still be solid in is own end.  I like the idea of bringing in Niinima(sp?), as it wouldn't cost us much and we could give him a fresh start.  The only problem is there isn't anyone on this team that I would give up!  Well, except Ribiero, but much of that is just because I want to see the rookies get more ice-time, as I think they bring a lot more to the team.  I even like Dagenais and Streit as insurance players who can be brought in to help run the PP and play a little 5 on 5.  My only realworry about bringing someone in is the chemistry factor... this team is tight and it has been a while since we have had a team that works so well together.  I am glad we have Gainey!

what is great about this team is the fact that they are a team....like barry said, someone is always stepping up and delivering timely performances in the clutch.


in past years we always lacked that tying goal, winning goal etc. or big play that sparked the team.  Maybe it was just a confidence factor of coming back against a team like tampa and then pulling ahead of them in the third.  That would never have happened in 03/04. This year its happening on a regular basis.  Another reason maybe the passion of that this team has. After coming back to beat boston after being down 3 games to 1 in the playoffs, just to be swept by the lightning, this team was eager to get back on the ice and improve on its performance.  By keeping the basic nucleus of our team and not running around tryign to sign every free-agent, BG ensured this hunger would still be here this year.  The addition of the young guns also adds a youthful energy to the team which it seems to bring to every game.  Although we can't expect to win every 1 goal game, as it is inevitable that we will lose some of them this year, its sure nice to know we have the ability to strike at any moment. 


to think that we are still rebuilding is really exciting to be a habs fan. we will only get better over the next few years with BG running the show!
