Tough to choose this year, but as of now I'd have to say my top three are:
Begin -- nobody hustles like this guy, his penalty killing is superb, and he's even started finding the net with big goals when we need them. I'd take a whole team of Stevie Bs
Theodore -- he may be off to a slowish start this year, but once he gets his land-legs back in the new NHL, I think he'll make the same kind of contributions to the team's success that he has made in years past -- and hopefully take us even farther.
Koivu -- Every team needs a leader who leads by example and Captain K is it. He's a tireless skater, an unbelievable passer, and he's got a nose for scoring (and setting up) goals.
If you allowed me a fourth pick, it would go to Andrei Markov, who improved so much in the year off that I could hardly recognize him. He's now a solid playmaker and has improved his defensive skills to the point that I almost find myself relaxing a little when he's on the ice. (Almost!) Letting Breeze-by go and giving Markov the reins on D was the best move ever.
Begin is what Tucker wants to be. No, wait Tucker is what Tucker wants to be - Begin is what Tucker should be (Tucker is +/- of -9 and ranks 662 of 663 players HAHA).
Ryder will be a consistant force for years, even with so-so linemates.
Koivu is Koivu. Saku is Finnish for Zachary and that is a great name.
But the good tthing about being a Habs fan is that there are so many top 3 favourite types. Zed, Kovalev, Rivet, Markov, Bouillion, Bulis, Theo, even Ribs sometimes. And there are more. So, maybe next week, after Kovalev tears a new one in Buffalo he'll be in the top 3.
1. Kovalev - magic to watch when all is aligned in the universe for him
2. Markov - So good. Never fat headed about it. You'd notice him most if he was missing - there'd be a giant hole
3. Ryder - While he may not have a "V" at the end of his name, he seems half an hour ahead of the play sometimes. Looks like he's having the same fun out there as he did when he was a kid. And to think he's not even fully ripened yet
kovalev- i'm thrilled to have a player of this calibre (offence, and suprisingly on defense too) on our team for once. looks like he is getting into a groove now as well!
koivu- the heart and soul of the team. gives it all everytime he is out there and that is all you can ask!
begin- same as koivu and more of an underdog....love this guy more and more lately, keep it up stevie!!!
honorable mentions.....theo- i believe he'll be more consistent soon. markov- just a clutch defender and plays smart in so many different ways( body and stick positioning, pasing....) a few others too but it is nice to have many choices
Koivu: How can you NOT like this guy? If you hate him, it's because you're the lovechild of Satan and Rosey O'Donnel: just pure evil.
Kovy: His skill is what draws me to him. Best stick handling on the team and a thrill to watch.
Ribs: Frustrating to like... Sometimes his vision comes off as brilliant and has the ability to make great plays and find his wingers. I only wish his mental game was on par with his natural skills. Oh and 15 pounds of muscle wouldn't hurt either.
