Clearly, there are a few teams searching for a number one goalie.  So, I thought it might be fun to speculate about what type of return the Habs might receive by trading Theodore!  (And-o is just looking for some fun here…no need to rant and rave with arguments “for” or “against” Theodore)

So, for example, If Edmonton stepped up and offered Steve Staios, Ryan Smyth and a 1st rounder would that be enough???  How about if Tampa swallowed their pride and offered Brad Richards???  Could Mad Mike ever be interested in Jose?  What if Cloutier’s injury is more long-term…maybe Vancouver would offer one of their main d-men…or maybe offer “Burt” a much needed change of venue???

How surprised would you be if Theodore was sent packing?

And-o is pretty much indifferent at this point…because I see very little difference between Danis and Theodore (other than $$$).

The only down side barry33 sees to the possibility of tradinG Theo is his big salary and how much cap room that will eat up wherever he ends up. Then again if teams would part with teh names that you mention that frees up cap room for them as none of them are on the welfare line.

I would be a little surprised if it happened soon, but not surprised if it happens should Theo not become spectacular again later in the year.  But, when you look at the goalie stats throughout the league, many goalies are "sucking" at the moment.  In fact, according to the stats, Kolzig, Khabibulin, Nabakov, Belfour, Brodeur, Turco, Raycroft and Garon are all worse off (Theo is rated #32 and they are all rated 32+).  Danis is rated #1, but that is silly if he's only played 5 periods.  So, GAA is up everywhere, no doubt, and we are not the only team with trouble, if you want to call it that, in net.  Our problem is not so much that scoring is up as it is that our goaltender is playing rather sloppily.

We seem to have depth unlike any other in goal, about 4-5 deep I think.  I wouldn't cry about it if he were traded, unless we got ripped off.  But that is unlikely to happen anyway.  I'd take a top 3 def, 2nd line centre and some picks.
