I have been a Habs fan since 1969. Since that time (36 years) the Habs have won cups in 1969,71,73,76,77,78,79,86,93. Thats 9 cups in 36 years. What other team in a major sport would have given me a championship 25 percent of the time. I guess on the nights I get frusrated, I should just think of the times I would be watching the games where lafluer, Lemaire, Cournoyer, Frank or Pete Mahovlich would get the big goal. Also I remember the games when Dryden made the big saves. I remember walking through High school during those years so proud to be a Habs fan eventhough I was in Bruins country. I guess I should recall the good times they gave me on the nights now when things are bad.
I know the feeling you mean about walking through high school proud to be a Habs fan, although I've only had it happen twice, it was both times the Habs beat the Bruins in the playoffs, especially that last one, that was extra nice I still figure this team is different than the ones we've had in the previous years, as we were designed for the new rules, so when everone is clicking the othe team better lookout.

I agree david. I believe that the fact that we have enjoyed SO much success over the years has made us like spoiled brats at times. Toronto fans will never admit it but they would give their right arm for a record that even closely resembles the Habs. What we have to do though is to try to have our expectations realistics. Lets not forget that MOST so called "experts" (ie Hockey News, ESPN etc) picked the Habs to miss the playoffs this year. Yet here we are a month into the season and fighting for first in what is arguably the toughest division in the league. This tells me that either the experts were totally pessimistic regarding the habs or that we, because of our love for the team, are biased and thus totally too OPTOMISTIC. My sense is that it is a bit of both and that the Habs will settle in somewhere between the two views.
I guess the good thing is that because of this success, we will never settle for mediocrity.

I honestly believe the experts overlooked us, if you look at where they are coming from (and I mean no disrespect to any US posters here) but the experts South of the Border from places like ESPN aren't exactly as educated on the game as people North of the Border. And the grand majority of the experts from up here come from a Toronto centered area. A lot of these expert opinions have been based off off who signed the biggest free agents(which has been a leaf mentality), because Montreal was quiet, they counted us out.
